Poppers on curtains?
Hi all,
Does anyone know where we can get some poppers for the curtains? The previous owners of our Renault Rimini 1993 did a lovely job putting new curtains all round. Beautifully made, clearly loved the van, but they didn't do the poppers round the bottom to attach to the dash etc., just wondering if anyone knows where I can get some that I might be able to sew into place? Local habadashery shop is closed for the foreseeable, they aren't planning to re-open just yet.
Any advice welcomed :scratch head:here is a pic of said pretty new curtains.

Thanks, Naomi

Re: Poppers on curtains?
I’m not sure if this is exactly what you are after but I’ve fitted poppers to a few curtains in the past with a kit I got off eBay.
The part that goes on the material comes in 2 parts and is pushed together through a small hole you make in the curtain. A tool that came in the kit allowed a swift hit with a hammer and the result was a neat popper, no sewing needed.
The part that fits on the wall, dash etc... simply screws on.
It sounds complicated but do a couple of trial runs on an old bit of material and it’s very simple and gives a professional look.

That is what I have used. You need to check that the studs you buy are the same size as the parts already there. I will check ours tomorrow and let you know.

Or just replace the existing parts with the matching ones that come in the kit (assuming they are just screwed on).

You need 15mm heavy duty ones to fit what is there. The smaller studs would be difficult to screw on.

9.5mm are the ones on my van & my previous one, I assumed they are the same on all AS vans.

Do you need bother with poppers?
I ask because I know our vans don't have them as standard, they just have enough length and fullness so that there's no gaps.
A previous owner had sewed press studs to the joining edges of the original faded curtains using all different colour cotton thread. They looked really horrible and served little purpose. Our replacement curtains look much, much better without them.

Re: Poppers on curtains?
I think they are on some vans to keep the curtains parallel to the windows. Where there is a slope the curtains when closed hang vertically and away from the windows. This lets light in where you do not have blackout blinds eg the windscreen. This will not worry some people others like a really dark place when sleeping. I put press studs on the windscreen curtains when I replaced them but did not put them on the side curtains (think I ran out of them) and never really noticed until the blind stopped working. Now light shines in along the bottom edge.
