Cleaning Nuevo roof
Is it safe to get on the roof of a 2012 Nuevo to clean it? Thanks all.

Re: Cleaning Nuevo roof
Personally I would not risk it as they are not designed to take concentrated weight of someone walking around on and you will stress seals around vents etc. By spreading the load via some crawler boards perhaps but at this time is it worth it in case the worst happens and you damage the roof or worse still fall and become a statistic on an already under pressure NHS.
With every van we have ever had I could work from a ladder with caution and either use a long handled car wash brush or a soft floor brush attached to a broom handle for extra reach and cover all areas easily. You can then use the same with a cloth attached to wax the roof etc.
No doubt you will now be inundated with replies of the type ' I am 26 stones and hold dance parties on my roof without issue' At the end of the day its your van and your health .....

Thanks Kaspian. I will keep off the roof on that basis. :)

Is it safe - depends on the context. You will find in your handbook that you will not damage the structure if you spread a load of 75 kg over the roof as I have done for many years but Kaspian is quite right in that if you apply part of that load near one of the aperture seals you risk breaching it.
It would be great if I could access all areas of my roof without getting up there but I can't.

I work on the principle that I can reach the parts which show from a ladder, and I don't worry too much about the mucky bit in the middle.

Hi Peter that's where I went wrong , I should have strapped 2 8x4 sheets of 12mm ply to my feet and spread the load! Saying that I did witness a motorhome dealer workshop bod walking about the roof of a sales/ sold Nuevo blasting the crude off the roof with a pressure washer with turbo lance! No I would not have liked it to have been mine either......Peter Brown wrote:I You will find in your handbook that you will not damage the structure if you spread a load of 75 kg over the roof

Re: Cleaning Nuevo roof
Sound advice from Kaspian. There was a time when I sent my boy onto the roof of our caravan to clean it but not now. I learnt from my caravanning days that its not a good idea to put a bucket on the roof as its base will scratch the paintwork. Although my Nuevo is smaller than the caravan, it's higher. I use a ladder and a small light weight brush on the end of a light alloy pole - I think we got it years ago to clean the house windows - and I take my time. I use a larger more conventional car brush for the rest.

Re: Cleaning Nuevo roof
I access my roof by using a short pair of steps inside and fully open the roof light, gives access to a large part of roof, especially centre which is not possible from external steps. Or am I stating the obvious?

Same here Richard, I clean the roof in the same way. Every part except the area immediately behind the roof light hinges can be reached from the top of a five foot step ladder inside the van.
