Kingham - Cleaning of curtains ? Empty Kingham - Cleaning of curtains ?

Post by sylvester1954 Tue Jan 07, 2020 2:58 pm

Good afternoon - Having decided to give our Kingham van a good interior clean we have recognised that the curtains need a good wash.
Has anyone put these through the usual washing machine process and if so what temperture have you set. I am worried that the lining may shrink (if not the curtains them selves) and  the plastic studs that clip into the curtain rail become brittle.
Or do you have to send the job lot to be dry cleaned...your advice is most welcome. thanks shrugg

I have washed several sets of curtains from several different vans. I usually do them on a 30 deg C gentle wash , short spin and then line dry. This seems to do the trick.

The reason I am fairly careful with them is that the fabric itself might have become brittle given that it has been exposed, I assume, to strong sunlight for long periods.

You ought to find the washing instructions tucked away in the seam of the curtains somewhere but, whatever it says, check that the fabric doesn’t feel brittle.

As above, I’ve washed various curtains over the years and so far no issues using the most gentle wash.
Can you test wash just a single curtain first, perhaps a rear window one to get an idea of the result. At least that way you have only caused a problem with one if it all goes wrong.

Did your van have curtains from new by the way? My 2018 Symbol doesn’t have any, another A/S cost cutting exercise I guess!

Thanks for the advice. Yes the Kingham  (2nd hand) came with full set of curtains more decorative than functional  as the blinds gives one the privacy.

Having two cats who like to sit on window sills, curtains are essential as the blinds are very fragile. Cleaning curtains using a Dyson with a mini motorhead accessory 3 or 4 time a year has maintained the curtains in excellent condition for the last 8 years.
