Re: PX Price
Sorry to say, but I don't think there is any such thing as a "going rate" for a van that's more than, say, 10 years old, for a number of reasons. Firstly because the value is dependent more on condition and history than age, and no two people will agree on what is VGC and what is not - some people are more fussy than others.
Another variable is the dealer that you are attempting to PX with. Some will want your van, and some won't! If it doesn't fit with the "image" of their forecourt then they will simply offer you a very poor PX price to try to persuade you to take it elsewhere. If that sort of dealer does make an offer, they will immediately want to punt it on to another dealer - and both will want to make some sort of margin on it.
And of course there are time of year variables. Although people do buy secondhand vans at this time of year, PX prices will be suppressed because the volume of buyers is less. In springtime you could expect PX prices to be slightly higher.
So it's difficult. If it were mine, I would probably look online and see what the "average" dealer price for a similar van is, and knock 40% off - that's probably a realistic view of roughly where you might be. Of course, another approach would be to take it to a dealer or two, feigning interest in a more recent van, and asking what they would give you in PX???

Re: PX Price
Also remember that in a PX the prices are all variable and only the cost to change matters. For instance a dealer can offer you £10k and sell you a van for £35k- cost to change £25k or he could offer you £5k and sell ou the same replacement van for £30k - cost to change still £25k. One makes you think you've got a good PX offer, the other a discounted replacement. You'll rarely get a good PX and a discounted replacement. Though in this case you might be offered £7.5k and the replacement at £32.5k - cost to change still £25k.

Totally agree with you. We have Ford dealer who only sells top class cars, at lot higher prices than others, but gives you a lot more on PX. He says its the change price that counts.steamdrivenandy wrote:Also remember that in a PX the prices are all variable and only the cost to change matters. Re: PX Price
Agree, a friend with a Swift van was recently offered what appeared to be a very high p\ex against a very competitively priced van he was after. When he turned up at the dealer to view this 2018 van it was in very poor condition. His too good to be true part ex was exactly that and the likelihood is that the dealer was struggling to sell the van.
It all depends on what you are buying, how much you intend to spend, and also factors such as availability of the van you are buying plus the dealers sales figures that month. I know, a bit of a minefield. Ultimately it comes down to how much it costs to change, as rgermain says.

Re: PX Price
I'm told that part of the customer qualification exercise that sales people conduct is to try and suss out the customer's preferences on a deal. So if you appear keen on getting high PX value they'll likely give you one. But they won't shift on the replacements price. OTOH if they detect that you're v keen on getting a discount on the replacement you'll get one, but the PX value will be low. It's about playing to customers priorities and making them feel they've achieved something in the negotiation.

As expected, more often than not, those who fail to do an intro as requested upon registration and jump straight in with a question, are never seen again.Roopert wrote:And.... they were never heard from again.
