Engine sluggish 1999 Peugeot Boxer Symbol
Any suggestions welcome. We've had issues with a faulty Idle valve in the past, where the engine cut out at low revs but was fine at speed. Replaced it twice now. VAN been stood for a few weeks. Started fine, but when we took it out on the road it was choking under pressure. Have checked all air lines, replaced plugs, checked air filter earth wires etc to no avail. Just before I order yet another Idle valve, has anyone else had any similar issues.?

Hi,
As you have probably found out nobody knows much about these engines, I had problems with mine which took a lot of sorting. Looking down from the radiator at the top on the left are two valves, the one which is more to the left of the pair has a rubber hose about half inch bore connected to the bottom of the manifold. This valve is open when the engine is running to ventilate the tank and is meant to close on tick over. Mine stuck open so the engine wouldn't tick over, easy test is to pull the big pipe off the valve and block it and see how things run. Your problem sounds like a weak mixture to me, are the hoses to the manifold intact. Alternatively there could be a problem with a coil or injector, let me know how you get on,
Chris

Thanks For the info Chris. Yes they are a problem, even finding parts etc. Of course I'll let you know. My husband has ordered another air intake valve controller.

Hello Tina and Bernie
Did you manage to resolve this problem? I have a 2000 Petrol Boxer Harmony. I had problems with a misfire under load / on gradients which turned out to be the head gasket. I also have the cut out at low revs issue which my mechanic has said is the idle control valve but have left it for now as seems to mainly be cold engine only.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. We had the head gasket replaced last year, along with a whole replacement cooling system. We have also replaced the Idle value twice now. To be honest we gave up and limped it into our local garage.
It's still there and they're checking all the obvious things we couldn't locate our physically get to, like the fuel pump, filters and injectors. Keeping everything crossed. Tha ks again.

Good luck with it...as Chris said it seems like they are a bit rare and nobody seems to know that much and some spares quite tricky to get also. I hope your garage get it sorted - all my mechanic ever says is "I wish you'd bought a diesel.." (but I'm glad I didn't).

Thanks and yes.. Everything you look up online refers to the diesel.. Who's laughing now with all the restrictions on diesel feuled vehicles.. Well that's when ours is working!!
