Broadway external locker flap
Hi, so we are a few days into ownership of our '66 Broadway EK. Really like it but I am already slightly irritated by the lack of a 'stay' on the external locker flap. If I use both hands to take something out, then the weight of the locker flap is supported by a ridge of plastic below the hinge. As an engineer, all I can see is a great way of straining/breaking the hinges.
Any modifications/experience from owners?
(My current solution is to put my bike tyre floor pump under the flap - it works, but not ideal)

Can't send a photo as the van is not here.
I just fitted a length of nylon cord each side so the flap is held horizontal. (It's also handy as a table for coffee cups when sitting outside.)
I used existing screws and put washers under them to hold the cords, and it has worked fine for three years now.

My Gloucester has twin wire strops fitted to both external lockers which hold the lids horizontal (underbed and skirt). I assume these were original AS fitment.

Not having lockers, I'm imaging from previous comments that the flaps drop down and not hinge up. If you hold it horizontal, doesn't that restrict your 'stretch' into the locker ?

"Were" is the operative word Peter. They don't any more, hence my nylon cord equivalents. (Presumably yet another trivial economy which has a significant disadvantage to the owner.) The straps on the underbed lid are almost essential as the OP indicates. The skirt lid is not such a problem as it just dangles when open.PLOUGHLIN wrote:My Gloucester has twin wire strops fitted to both external lockers which hold the lids horizontal (underbed and skirt). Paul: The flaps do drop down, but holding them horizontal is no problem. The skirt one is so shallow there's no need to stretch in, and in our case we store the chairs in the underbed and access them via the outside door, so again the horizontal lid is no problem.
