Any idea where he's going.? Perhaps a Marquis branch to turnaround their service?

That really is sad news, but good luck to him in whatever he does next.

A really nice chap, always there to help, met him a couple of times over the years, always a smiling face at the workshop at 7.30 in the morning.

Sorry but I don't yet have any further information. I endorse the esteem in which Mark is generally held.

Mark has just returned an e- mail to me, he was with Autosleeper for 30 years, he didn't say why he was leaving.Cymro wrote:Sorry but I don't yet have any further information. I endorse the esteem in which Mark is generally held.

He can't go. He's part of the fabric of AS. In my experience always helpful, straightforward and knowledgeable. No higher accolade can be given than describing him as an overall good egg!

Maybe after 30 years he wants to retire. Apologies if he is a youngster, not met him myself.

I wouldn't say he looked old enough to have worked anywhere for 30 years.PLOUGHLIN wrote:Maybe after 30 years he wants to retire. Apologies if he is a youngster, not met him myself.

When we dealt with him in 2017 he was off for half term suggesting he had school age kids. He will be missed, and an almost impossible act to follow.

Re: Mark at AS service dept ... shame
It will be hard to replace his all-round knowledge of the A/S 'vans and systems.
My last encounter with the workshop involved over 2 grands worth of repairs and I found the workmanship excellent. No doubt one of the chaps could be promoted from within.
I agree about him being fit, as he cycles to work and back in all weathers, even through the winter I believe.
Good luck to him in whatever he takes on.

THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER FOR ALL AUTOSLEEPER OWNERS.
Mark is a fantastically committed individual and was always ready to give owners the benefit of his encyclopaedic knowledge of the brand.
But good luck to him - he deserves an easier life..

Is there a way of showing this list of accolades and gratitude to Mark ?
And the AS management ? He should be made aware of the esteem in which we owners hold him.

Re: Mark at AS service dept ... shame
That’s the end of the service center then if Mark leaves... No way anyone can replace him.
Got a feeling he was unhappy last time we were there by something he said.
Boaby... Mark is fit cycling daily but he’s had health issues suffering with ‘Graves Disease’ (like myself) I wish him every success for the future, and hope he goes on to bigger and better things and that he’s appreciated more than he was by Auto-Sleepers!
He started work at AS when he was just 16, cycles from Evesham to Willersey daily.
Will certainly make me think about going there anymore in the future, he was a Top Guy!

Shame that. I can remember him moving out of the workshops to take over from Trevor, think one of his first jobs was a quote for us on reconfiguring the Windsor
He will be missed

Re: Mark at AS service dept ... shame
Mark was AS itself. Did his utmost to help, without exception. What he didn't know about AS just wasn't worth knowing. His replacement has a big void to fill, if he is replaced.
I now have a Benimar (same umbrella as AS) and my experience of a factory visit for help with a small problem whilst on holiday, was one of total dismissal. The stock answer was, "we build them we don't repair them" that came from three different people we spoke to. Maybe that will now happen at AS factory and only be able to use their agents for repairs. Just a guess but, !!!!!!!!!
Leighton.

Re: Mark at AS service dept ... shame
Exactly my fear, Leighton. I first thought it when shortly after the take-over, the parts department was closed to walk-in customers, apparently on (not unreasonable) grounds of safety. But I began to wonder...

Re: Mark at AS service dept ... shame
We worried when Alan retired from the spares dept but the two ladies in there, Katherine and Daphne, do a stirling job although they need the build number whereas Alan had everything filed away in his head.

Sorry to read that Mark is leaving, maybe buying an A/S and going travelling.
Friends of ours got the same type of reply when their diesel heating stopped working on their 9 month old Chausson Welcome bought last March brand new from main dealer in Oxfordshire, "you must have been using the heater too much". He was reminded that last summer was one of the hottest on record.
The things they come up with! I might add the Chausson has had quite a few faults apart from the heating.
