Silicone Spray Empty Silicone Spray

Post by Gram Tue Feb 05, 2019 8:34 pm

A posting on the current 'Side Door' thread advocates spraying sliding door mechanisms with silicone spray.

I am sure I have read somewhere that silicone should not be used for metal-metal lubrication.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I'm not confirming or refuting but the sliding door has nylon (roller) to metal contact not metal to metal.

But, surely, the nylon roller has a metal to metal roller or ball bearing within?

You just have to consider the type of lubrication - for a bearing that will taking a high load then silicone spray isn't the best.  For a simple rolling door mechanism I wouldn't worry too much.
