2019 RAF Air Tattoo Fairford
Just wondering if anyone is going and where to put the MH. I just looked at the Airshow campsite and to stay for the Saturday and Sunday for 2 of us with admission to the show, it will cost the best part of £350!! The campsite alone for 2 nights, on a field with no EHU works out at £140. That's daylight robbery!!
Most nearby campsites seem to be booked up already and I can find nothing relating to it on the C&C or C&MH club websites. Has anyone got any more info?

Try Fairford FC they have a web site. We have already booked as it uses a small field for caravans and MH. Best to book sooner than later. There is no EHU but a club site with entertainment and food etc. We have been going for 10 years its OK. Campers can use the club facilties such as toilets and showers.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at both of those today.
I also had an email back from the organisers to say that I can park the MH in the free car park as part of the admission fee, so a site further away for overnight looks very workable.

Try and get a site as close as possible. The queues on the roads can become long

We have just booked in to the Football Club site for the Friday and Saturday Nights, so may well see you there Apparently they have facilities on show week for an extra 21 caravans/motor homes and 100 tents, so at £25 per pitch per night is a good price compared with the £40 per head per night on the official RIAT field.Pnefan wrote:Try and get a site as close as possible. We are also taking our bikes, so will cycle down on the Friday evening to check out where the car parks are for easiest access.

You don't need to check . The road to the access road down to the show through the village is closed to through traffic. So it's easy from the football club..

I suppose you can stay at the FC and watch most of the show from there

I suppose you could see much of the flying from the football club, but part of the fun of the day will be the atmosphere and noise, the concession stands and of course getting up close to the planes and pilots on the ground. I also like to pay for admission as it is hugely expensive to put on these shows and I am quite happy to contribute the admission fee to that, but not the ridiculous camping field charges.rose49f wrote:I suppose you can stay at the FC and watch most of the show from there

The site is surrounded by trees a d you only see the planes regrouping over the football ground .you don't see the full display. If you arrive on the Friday you do see the practice flights from the club house

Managed to meet Roger and Claire at the Campsite. Nice people. Spent a pleasant couple of hours on the Friday with them.

Nice to meet you Jacqueline and Kevin plus John of course. As you say spent some pleasant time together and really enjoyed your company. Hope our paths cross again in the future.
The Football Clubsite was basic, but with good food and bars in the club house and some reasonable entertainment, it was a lot better value than was offered by the RIAT field with no facilities and a considerably higher price. We took the van down to the airfield for the show and although progress was slow getting in, we didn't have far to walk to the gates. Getting out on the other hand seemed to be disorganised, with cars that we saw standing up to an hour stationary in queues, and over 90 minutes to get out. Having the van, we just opened up the door and windows, Claire cooked dinner and we chilled out until the way to the exit was empty.
Great show, followed by another night at the FC field then off to Bath for a few days.

Totterdown Farm - is there a better location?
Hi, I stay at Totterdown Farm, a temporary camp site with catering vans, hot showers, portaloos, mains water and chemical disposal available. The farm overlooks the airfield and I watched the arrivals, validation flights, displays and departures without leaving the site! The aircraft fly over the site and its a perfect location to take photos. The BOAC 747 and Red Arrows flew over the site - an amazing spectacle!
Generally the site comprises of four fields and every pitch is taken but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a pitch.
It’s best to view the Facebook page “We’re all camping at Totterdown” to get a flavour. Bookings for newbies is late November, early November for regulars. The cost for one adult and a pitch was £80 this year - that’s from Tuesday to Monday. To secure your pitch, the organiser takes a £30 non-refundable deposit.

Re: 2019 RAF Air Tattoo Fairford
Totterdown is further out but it does sound good for the price But we go in the Cotswold enclosure and watch from the side of the run way so wouldn't be suitable for our needs. Fairford FC suits us fine as it's only a couple of minutes down to the start of the road which leads down to the airfield

I tried to book Totterdown as soon as booking opened in January, but all pitches were shown as gone. Presumably those that had previously booked take the pitches early, as they can book from November I believe.

It’s probably worth sending Simon an email late November giving dates you want a pitch - suggest you give him a minimum and maximum number of days. I would imagine the more days you want would help him make a favourable decision. I have always been in Field 2 and recommend it. This year was my third year, people do drop out - that’s how I got in. Yes, I rebooked in November with a £30 deposit.
