2.2 Euro 5 or 2.0 Euro 6 Engine?
Hello, I joined the forum last week after 3 months of intensive research which resulted in the decision that a low profile Nuevo EK will be my first Motorhome after many years of tents, camper vans and for the past 3 years an Eriba Puck caravan.
My first question (and I’m sure there will be many more!) regards the 2.2 Euro 5 engine. My budget at present means I’m looking at 2014/15/16 vans with the 2.2. Nuevos from late 2016 had the 2.0 Euro 6 which I’ve read is more refined and economical then the “rattling” 2.2 unit.
I’m in no rush to buy as I will be keeping the Eriba until I buy the Nuevo so I’m wondering whether to wait another year till the newer engine is hopefully within my budget.
Any comments, especially about the 2.2 engine would be great.
Thanks, David.

I am very happy with my Euro 5 2.2 and would not describe it as rattly. I have no experience of the Euro 6.
With the Euro 6 you will need to use Adblue but, conversely, you will be better prepared for more stringent emissions control in cities.

Thanks, that was what exactly what I was hoping to hear (it wasn’t me calling them rattly by the way, just one article I read which is why I would much rather hear from you guys who actually own them!).

Hi Dbvwt, I have owned 4 - 2.2 Peugeot Boxer engines in motorhomes which are actually Ford units I believe. The first was 100hp , then 120 and now 130hp. The more powerful they get the more noisy on hard acceleration, but are quiet cruising. The 100hp was 5 speed and probably my favourite to drive with better ratios and enough power for an overcab motorhome.
All have been reliable and with yearly oil changes you should have no problems. Unfortunately diesels are now suffering due to ever more complex methods to meet emissions and I believe the newer an engine is , the more they will suffer expensive problems in the future . Our works fleet runs thousands of vans and our garage is seeing numerous problems with late model engines that are very expensive to remedy. We currently have a late model van sitting with £7000 + spent and still throwing up warning lights and running issues after renewing dpf and all injectors. Dont believe some of the tosh you read where reviewers are more interested in pleasing sponsors and dont care if it breaks down 3 years later with a bill that makes in almost uneconomic to repair!

I have the 2.0 litre Peugeot engine, Euro 6...I don’t notice any difference from my 2.2 euro 5 engine..however; it’s a great puller and relatively quite, I love it...yes it uses Ad blue but that’s no hardship at all and I’m averaging 32 mpg ove 7000 miles...including towing a motorcycle trailer...not bad for 4 Tonne..

I have the same engine and I agree that in 6th it pulls very well and I rarely have to change down . However.,If I do drop to 5th I find it struggles to accelerate as my car does for example. Is this a characteristic of the engine or am I not booting it enough

Fantastic help everyone, putting my mind at rest about the 2.2 and also good to hear people are happy with the 2.0.
I’m reasonably technically minded so do understand the pros and cons of the latest diesels....don’t get me started on the DPF issues my girlfriend has had with her VW Tiguan...

For info, does anyone know when the 2.0 actually first appeared in Autosleepers on the road?
Also, if I bought a late 2.2 Euro 5, would it be seen as a negative come resale time in say 3/4 years? I realise this would just be opinions but interesting all the same.

Not saying the Peugeot 2 l will be affected but I know that with many others it is the opposite . The older engines are well regarded for longevity / low maintenance costs and the newer engines are getting a reputation for needing expensive repairs just as they are out of warranty and being bought by those who are less able to afford expensive repairs...
