new model Symbol Plus?
any thoughts on this new model for 2019. it's the front of the Symbol with the rear of the Stanway?
I didn't like the front lounges of either the Stanway nor the Fairford (identical) so perhaps AS has had a change of heart and put in a more comfortable/open lounge, in effect, into the Stanway.
perhaps we'll see something similar in the Fairford a bit later?

One comment (so far) - I hate tambour doors.

Re: new model Symbol Plus?
The reviews say it's 5.99 MTRS so presumably it's on the LWB.AutoSleepy_Don wrote:Is it still be the MWB chassis? (like the current Symbol)

Don, no it's on the LWB, 5.99m.
Paul, obviously tambour doors are there for space saving reasons, yes they can be sticky at times, but unless there is room to open and close the door easily, or it is used to become a divider to screen off the rear bedroom/bathroom, I don't see a problem with them.
BTW, we don't have one, nor have had one...

5.998 is LWB, 6.3xx is XLWBIanH wrote:L3 is 5999mm, L4, LWB is 6363mm, or thereabouts
MWB is about 5.4m from memory. For me, the draw of the Symbol is the shorter MWB chassis, quite a bit easier to park when touring.

Re: new model Symbol Plus?
At last year's NEC show we looked at Wildax, having been impressed with their models for some years. One model suited us (can't remember which model at the moment) except all overhead cupboards and the washroom had tambour doors. Most tambour doors with sticky, juddery and flimsy. We asked if the model could be supplied with standard doors and were told 'no, that's how they come, take it or leave it'. They asked us why we didn't like them and were told there was no problems with them despite the ones on show being sticky. They said 'thats due to people opening and shutting them at the show's !!bolero boy wrote:Don, no it's on the LWB, 5.99m.

Early this year they reverted to standard doors.

Re: new model Symbol Plus?
There is nothing about this online at the moment. I have googled "auto sleepers symbol plus" and "auto sleepers symbol 2019" but there are no results so far.
I'm less excited now I know it's another LWB.

If you've googled '''autosleepers symbol plus' you would have found it but you need to scroll down quite a way until you see a pdf link from orbit.brightbox.
Can't copy a link as it's a pdf. It's a write up from latest What Motorhome mag. There is also a brief bit in latest Practical Motorhome that came through my letterbox this morning.

Re: new model Symbol Plus?
yes, I read it in What MH, too...
Don, I see whay you're saying about the length....it's certainly possible to have a van with the Symbol lounge at 5.41....after all, the Symbol has one!
on my own van, it would be perfectly possible to chop off the rear transverse bed and garage (1.50m wide) and have the same lounge, kitchen, washroom we have now, all perfectly adequate, with huge drop down bed in the cab, in a van reduced from 6.40m to 4.90m, so even smaller than the current Symbol by half a metre....
however, we wouldn't have the huge garage storage we now enjoy...
similarly, I'm sure the Symbol plus could have been squeezed into a 5.41 MWB van, however the reason for using the STANWAY rear would have been the spacious kitchen...in fact now a very similar layout to the Hymer B DL 444.... although it has its front bed as a cab drop down rather than a make up bed.
I guess it's hard to be innovative with the rear of a 5.41 van if the lounge has to be identical to the symbol....
perhaps that's why the rear of the Symbol is as it is....it's the best it can be...
in changing this to a larger kitchen version, something has to give....the length of the van.

Re: new model Symbol Plus?
Having the Dorsett (2012) will be having a look.
But I don't understand why they don't make a van conversion based on the Sprinter like they do coachbuilts.Would have been nice as a option
I love the quality of my Dorset but due to medical problems I am now looking to change to a Auto and don't really fancy the Fiat version. Almost nobody does a Hightop camper with the Sprinter/Crafter/Transit but loads use them for motorhomes
There are a few who do Racevans of course but what I want is less common than Hens Teeth

Re: new model Symbol Plus?
Thanks for that Paul
Maureen and I both prefer the layout just like the Symbol where you can sit looking out of the big open door which is causing the main problem as almost all we have found have the rear lounge
The Kemberton design is about right for us (in its 6mt length) Shire do a similar design and I see that they have just announced that they are going to use the Transit but the bathroom is not as clever still always a compromise

Re: new model Symbol Plus?
nice idea, shame you can't open the fridge door....
it's the opening of doors that makes enhancing the rear of the Symbol difficult....it's good as it is.
the Plus 'appears' to give more worktop but the angled hob is a case of form over function, and the additional side portion is very slim, from my viewings of the Stanway....
however, the main thrust is to get a better/different washroom, how successful this is will be down to customers.
