Yes, can confirm that ordinary black shoe polish gave a gloss shine to the above cab skylight surround. Not exactly an all over perfect shine on application when viewed very close-up, but that being only the first attempt. From below it did indeed look clean and very black. On visiting the van (in storage) this morning, noticed earlier rain had readily beaded on the black surface.

Re: Black roof trim front skylight surround
May I just add to my earlier post this am, the application and eventual buffing of the shoe polish took only about 25 minutes including the initial cleaning and several manoeuvres with the telescopic ladder.I have restored mine on our Broadway about 10 times so far, each time taking a full morning! Not fun! wrote:

Re: Black roof trim front skylight surround
Hi All
I also have been disappointed with the dulling of the black panels on our Beckford. After using everything from McGuire’s products, turtle wax etc I decided to give the Auto Gym product mentioned above a go. After trying every where here in Auckland to get I went to a marine the supply company to see if they had it. No joy but when I mentioned what I was trying to achieve I was told only product to use is Grunt. Ok nothing to lose so last weekend I applied it.
Amazing result and very easy to use. It does the work and takes very little effort. Within 2 weeks of using it the grunt wax should be applied. I did this the next day and all that needs to be done now is to wait and see how long it lasts.
To give it its proper name it is Grunt Kleenashine and Grun Supawax polish.
It can be applied in direct sunlight which is a huge benefit.
I have also checked and it is available from marine supply companies in the UK
Suggest you give it a go
Regards
Geoff

Re: Black roof trim front skylight surround
Picking up on an old thread, I use Autoglym bumper & trim gel , used it on my previous vans including our Duettos black vinyl panels, more black plastic trim on our Warwick and the gel brings up the black a treat.bazjaq wrote:I met a Broadway owner recently who had bought Autoglym Bumper & Trim Gel to use on the gas/water etc plastic covers. It worked a treat and they look like new, so he tried it on the skylight surround and it works there as well. I took his advice and got it, have used it on the plastic covers but have yet to try it on the roof as I am trying to figure a way to get up there safely.

Re: Black roof trim front skylight surround
Hi everyone. I’ve had the same problem on my Broadway regarding the dulling black finish. I’ve managed to reach and partially polish the area using a black colour restoring polish. As mentioned above, access is difficult if not impossible to some of the black surround. I was wondering if anybody on the forum had removed the skylight completely from the frame in order to access the roof by standing on the cab seats. Is this possible or even feasible? I’ve managed to undo the raising strut mechanism but can’t see how to undo the front hinges fitted to the roof. Any thoughts anyone?
