I have the original Snipe on the roof of our Rapido.

The mounting base and plate look very similar to the Snipe 3, if not identical, to me. so...?

You will not get a reliable signal inside the motorhome, particularly in a van conversion.  I know a couple with a Warwick who set up the snipe on the ground or a table outside.

A roof mounted unit is less likely to be subject to theft or vandalism but is not so easy to move around to avoid obstacles to propagation.
