Tracker
Hi,
Do any of you have a Tracker for your motorhome?
We are considering one but have no knowledge of them nor how successful they are.
At present we have an alarm system.
Thank you in advance

Re: Tracker
My advice would be to talk to your insurance company and find purveyors trackers are approved by them if you have one fitted they don't approve of you won't benefit from any discounts they offer for trackers

Re: Tracker
I have this one fitted,
https://www.rewiresecurity.co.uk/gps-tracker-tk-104-vehicle-car-tracker
Purely for my own peace of mind and interest. I also opted for the lifetime monitoring which was not too dear. It doesn’t attract an insurance discount nor is it a cat 5 or 6 for when insurance companies dictate fitting one.
I am of course aware of the jamming equipment that some allegedly use and the posters who tell me I am wasting my time and money, but I am happy with it.
I had considered this,
https://www.trackershop-uk.com/products/car-trackers/cat-6-tracker/
But with lifetime subscription it was about £600 and despite the high value of my van I could not convince myself.

Re: Tracker
We had a Trackstar fitted to our last van (Windsor) with a life subscription and I do know it worked
We came back from France a day earlier than planned and I remembered when we were on the ferry I phoned Trackstar and it had already triggered so I wasn’t met by a big bobby when we got back to the UK. I don’t know the make but a number of our members have had problems with the ones AS prewire ready for activation

Re: Tracker
One to avoid, "HAL Locate"
While it's thatcham approved, it's also a bloody pain in the * Inappropriate Word *!
You have to send a text message to disarm it.
If you forget, it sends YOU a text, if you ignore that text the tracker company ring you up and ask you all sorts of security questions.
I'm always forgetting to disarm it...
Sometimes too, even when I do remember, the text sometimes doesn't get through. Bad mobile signal perhaps?
Quite why it can't disarm with the ignition key is beyond me...
This tracker came fitted in my new van, I won't be renewing the subscription, cost £99 for two years.
I won't be renewing it, I'll probably get a proper Tracker instead.

Re: Tracker
The "Hal-Locate" tracker was fitted as standard on my m/h when it came from AS. As my insurance company did not require a tracker and offered no incentive to have one I completely removed it and saved on the battery drain as well as the annual subscritpion. But to be fair it does sit on a gated driveway most of the time.
Some T&Cs from the monitoring companies are completely worthless. On one factory fitted system (late 2016) the company required notification the m/h was missing before they bothered to find out where it was.

Re: Tracker
I have Hal locate and it can be a pain as previously stated the text doesn't always get through in time. But although they send 2 texts warning you of movement and then they ring you at least you know it's working and they are on the ball. The texts give you exact location plus vehicle voltage also you can text for this information yourself at anytime

I didn't know you could request the location via text message.
What do I need to send it please?

Just type locate and send it to you the normal number that you disarm it with. I use it to check vehicle voltage etc

Re: Tracker
I also have Hal Locate and don’t like it. In fact I hate it.
I was in Scotland earlier this year and had lots of problems trying to disarm the tracker. It is not always possible to find a convenient place to stop when tracker sends you a text message.
I think AS are now fitting Trackstar.
I have had a Phantom tracker in the past and that was ok.

If your on your own in a bad signal area, I can see the problem but they will ring you and with hands free it's ok. I have no knowledge of other systems.

By George!!
I didn't think it was working as I sent the word 'Locate' and nothing happened. Then about five minutes later what do you know? It replied with its current location
That's what I learnt today!
Thanks again woodlice

Re: Tracker
We have an Auto Matrics tracker. Excellent! You have a remote key fob to dis-arm it, when activated, you get a txt if the silent alarm is triggered. It can only be reset by AM HQ. It takes a while to get the set up right for your van, but we find it, and the service by AM HQ very good.
Check out the Auto Matrics web site.

Re: Tracker
Thank you for all your replies but I feel more confused than ever!Sorry everyone...
We have a Thatcham Alarm fitted to our m/h.
Insurance is due for renewal later this month but many quotes are asking for a Tracker, hence my original question...
Can anyone help please with this??
Thank you again in advance

Re: Tracker
Is you motorbike valuation realistic, I think if you value the motorbike above 50k their is a tracker requirement, below this value you might find its not needed.

Re: Tracker
Our van came with a Tracker Locate pre-fitted (£199 annual subscription).
https://www.trackerdirect.co.uk/tracker-locate
Nice to be able to check the van's location via the website, if you're a worrier that way.
You can also "Ring-fence" the van, so that you get a notification if it moves more than 250 meters. We use this facility when it's in storage or on site (and we're away from the site).
It also records individual journeys so you can keep track of mileage and what not, again via the website.
They claim a pretty impressive recovery rate too.
Hope never to have to report on how effective it is after a theft!
Tommy.

I'd like to do that on my 2012 Nuevo ES. Any ideas as to where I can find it?

I think shetland33 meant any ideas as to where the tracker is installed in their vehicle :)
Perhaps not something we should share on a public forum?
