inverter for 240v tv
I have been looking on the internet and found that I can get an inverter for our spare 240v tv but I can't understand what size/power inverter I would need to buy for a 19" flat screen tv. Can anyone help me on this please?
Thanks CB

Inverter for tele
Our 15 inch TV is rated at 26 watts on that basis any inverter from 100watts upward would be suitable, we have a 150 watt inverter permenantly wired to a wall socket but if you do this make sure you fit a switch in the feed wire as they will draw power whenever they are switched on even if there is nothing connected to them, and an inverter will use quite a bit of power just to run itself .

inverter for 240v tv
Hi Brian
We just wanted to use our spare home tv rather than spending out on a 12v tv at the moment. It is our intention, eventually, to stay on CL sites but we will initially be staying on larger sites with electric hook-ups until we are used to motorhoming (we are newbies). Just trying to save ourselves a few 'bob' so thanks for your help and advice.

Hi Colyn,
We did the same as you, bought a 150 watt from aldi for £30.00, ours had a cooling fan on it, what frankly, got on my nerves, so we bought a 12 volt tv, bliss.

Thanks Pete, sounds like we'd best start saving for a 12v

TVs
If you look close enough at many small TVs they are not 240 volt anyway if they have a box of some sort fitted in the lead it is worth checking the voltage on the specification plate on the box or TV, as the box is obviously a transformer to change the voltage and the voltage could be 12 volt and could be used in the van without the transformer.

Re: inverter for 240v tv
Hi Colyn,
I used ti have an invertor on the old van but left it in when I changed - a friend sold me a 15" Flatscreen for £50 which was as descibed above a 240v but is actually a 12V TV that used a transformer plugged into 240v. I bout a wee 100W inverter reduced in Tesco (one of the cup holder types) for £15 which I use for the very very odd time that I need to run my Laptop on a CL with no hook up
Cal.

Re: inverter for 240v tv
I've just been to Comet an hour ago and in the 'To Clear' area I found a 15" flat screen (12v input) reduced to £45. When I enquired about I asked the salesperson if the power supply was with it. She didn't even realise that it needed one and could not find it. I said I'd take it if they could reduce it a bit more and got another £5 off. So it's worth looking out in the larger electrical goods suppliers bargain corner, I've seen a few in Curry's as well.
Incidentally the power supply from an old flat screen computer monitor delivers the right current and voltage for the tv.
Regards,
Altech

Re: inverter for 240v tv
You guys really are great. You have saved me splashing out on a new TV, as when I checked the TV in our spare room I found it was a 12v with a transformer. Tried it on battery and it works !!!!!
Thankyou
