Anyone heard of Gasstop.
Looks interesting, particularly with the demise of Calorlite and standard bottles not having a guage. Plus the safety aspect of leak detection..

Re: Anyone heard of Gasstop.
Thanks for the heads-up Paul - I've been on the lookout for something like this for a while now.
Ordered from Amazon (there would seem to be only one supplier in the UK at the moment and they sell via Amazon). I reckon that's £39.99 well spent.

Re: Anyone heard of Gasstop.
Hi Paul
I would want to see it in action before parting with the cash.
I find it hard to believe that the indication on the pressure gauge is as linear as it appears to be in the video. The gas pressure above the LPG will be virtually the same whatever the level, so the needle will not follow it (the level) like it shows in the animation.
If that was the case you would have very high gas pressure with a full cylinder, gradually reducing as the level of the LPG drops. This patently doesn't happen, although that's obviously what their animation suggests.
The safety cut off is a good feature, and that would be easy to test by disconnecting an appliance while it was in operation. I wonder why they didn't do that in the video, as it would have been a very reassuring demonstration - assuming it worked correctly. That alone would sell a lot of units, specially to those who take the grandkids with them.
I could be wrong, but if that gauge works as it says it does, why haven't Messrs Gaslow etc., fitted one to their cylinders? It would be much cheaper than the floats and linkages they use - which do work perfectly when you understand how they operate.
Hmmmmmmm????

Hi Dave,
I certainly don't have any great expectations about the gauge; I guess it'll be far less accurate than lifting the bottle and shaking it.
There's a (very short) video on Youtube where the guy cuts the hose to demonstrate the shut-off feature:- link here.

Re: Anyone heard of Gasstop.
I've just found this in their FAQ's regarding the guage..
A few points about the pressure gauge:
1. It works off pressure and is only an indicator. NB A steady pressure only shows that liquid LPG is inside the cylinder, but not how much liquid is left.
2. As GasStop is directly installed into the bottle there are a few variables that can affect unregulated pressure, namely: temperature, amount of liquified gas vs rate of vaporisation, gas type, gas purity. There may also be other irregularities which affect the pressure reading.
3. As per the instructions, it is advised to run the gas for a small period of time to have a better indication of gas level. This allows the LPG/pressure to reach something called “phase equilibrium”. Further to this point there is a “vapour pressure curve”, this is why it is recommended to run the bottle for a short while to allow for this process.
4. The gauge is pre-set to correspond to various pressure levels. Our device shows when there is gas, when the gas is very close to empty (a decline in the vapour pressure curve) and when there is no gas. It is not an accurate tool of measurement.
NB the gauge is also useful to represent the following:

Visual evidence of pressure decay (a minor leak) in a lock-up pressure test scenario

Visual evidence of over pressure

Visual evidence of a shut-off

Visual evidence of an activate and stable system

Visual evidence of variable/unstable pressure
IS THE PRESSURE GAUGE USEFUL?

Re: Anyone heard of Gasstop.
Thanks Paul.
That pretty much confirms what I thought, which is that, "Our device shows when there is gas, when the gas is very close to empty . . . and when there is no gas. It is not an accurate tool of measurement."
I have to ask why their animation clearly suggests that it is an accurate tool of measurement, when they admit that it can't be!!!
Steve - Your expectations are much the same as mine concerning the gauge, which is obviously no better than any other on the market - i.e. about as much use as a chocolate teapot!
However the little demo you found for the shut-off feature is impressive, and would fully justify the cost if the gadget was purchased for this feature alone. A Secumotion type shut-off regulator costs about £145 including postage, and judging from the YouTube demo you linked, I can't see how it can be any safer or more effective than the GasStop which is a fraction of the price.

Re: Anyone heard of Gasstop.
Out of curiosity / comfort, does the gas system fitted by AS - which is based on the fixed, refillable, underslung gas cylinder - have such a safety cut-off device?
If not, I wonder whether it would be possible to fit the Gas-stop at that point under the skirt where the regulator receives the supply from the tank?
In other words, is it of use to those of us with such gas tanks, or is the only alternative the Secumotion type regulator referred to by Gromit?

Re: Anyone heard of Gasstop.
Hi Cymro
Stako underslung gas tanks do have a safety cut-off valve, and these are the ones supplied to A/S by Messrs Gas-It.
This is a quote from the Gas-It website. "4) Our gas outlet is of top notch quality. It is a manually operated unit which is turned to control the flow on or off of the gas vapour. In this unit there is also a high quality automatic shut off valve, so should any pipe or regulator on the tank leak or come off, the tank will automatically turn its sell off - every time!"
Source = Gas-It website . . .
Confirmation that Messrs AutoSleepers fit Gas-It (Stako) tanks, is quoted here. "GAS IT equipment is specifically fitted to many manufacturers of Motorhomes, including Auto~Sleepers, on their own production line . . . . . . . We sell everything from a single fill point European adaptor up to multi refillable gas bottle systems using Stako refillable vapour tanks."

Hope this helps
