Marquis Surrey
Hi Everyone
Marquis have just taken over an existing site in Surrey,I have been thinking of upgrading my MH as I am too lazy to be sorting out beds morning and evening,so I popped along the other afternoon to have a browse I found a 2010 Autotrail (sorry AS Burfords are just too long) for about £42,000 ,So I foolishly asked about a trade in for my 2008 AS and was offered about £21,000 at that point I walked out deciding bed making may not be that bad after all.
regards
Alan

Re: Marquis Surrey
I've been offered £22k for my 06 Nuevo against a £42k AS van so what you were offered is pathetic (Nick Whale is selling an 09 Surrey for £34k so assume an 08 would sell for around £32k) but its what we've come to expect from the likes of Marquis. I'm assuming it's Michael Jordan's that's been taken over that you refer to.

Re: Marquis Surrey
I was offered £22,000 for my 2003 Anniversary Clubman, against a 2011 Mercedes Devon, £39,995, a bout three weeks ago, when I started looking for another van. payload pathetic, only inquired out of curiosity.
Think it depends on the dealers, I was offered that 18 months ago against a Peugeot Talisman. didn`t take it. Think a lot of dealers like Auto-sleepers especially the "0lder " ones as they were / are so well built.

Sell private Gemdeco. I've just been through the process using Autotrader and it was painless for me. Just ensure the van is sensibly priced less than dealer would sell for and you will get a private buyer. The difficult part for me starts now, finding the right van at the right price!!

Hi Alan , dealers have fancy showrooms overheads and fat well paid salesmen working to large mark ups to fund, you dont . Try even Gumtree, free to advertise and no commission charged , put up plenty of good photos and be sensible on price but dont give it away. Sold my last motor home in under 20 mins from placing advert ! Got a lot more than dealers were offering and then had no trade in so cash sale position with new van . Buyers delighted as had just been a round trip that day looking for a new van at various dealers and were put off by prices dealers were asking and the shocking state of their stock, on calling to enquire said they would bring a sizeable deposit to secure if as described ( it was actually better than described). As I say costs nothing to test the market, at this time of year buyers have been to the shows now but realised new is just outwith their reach ...

I think a lot of dealerships are over stocked with vans this time of the year, I made an part exchange inquiry with Todds on a 08 Duetto due in next month, I was offered £22k for my Sigma, .
SmC Newark have one on their stocklist for £29995, I don't think I will be looking to down size for a wee while.

Re: Marquis Surrey
When we sold our last van (Autocruise) I was told by several dealers that I had no chance of selling it at what I considered a reasonable sum and by one London dealer no chance at all being in the far South West of the UK.
I put the van on ebay with a lot of nice pictures and it was sold almost immediately to someone from the Isle of Skye, about as far away as you could get from here. Whole transaction was easy and we met at Warrington to hand the van over and do the deal.
I then negotiated a huge discount on our new van, I would always sell privately if I could.
Back on thread a relative has just bought a new Bailey from Marquis Surrey and seems very pleased with the service he has received, got a really good deal after trying a number of other dealers. No p/x though!

It's probably nothing directly to do with either of them.gmymsx wrote:well March came and went and I am still waiting for my new Warwick Duo.:( So far Marquis Surrey have given me 3 dates and all have yet be correct. Not impressed with Autosleeper and Marquis customer service.
It only needs one component to be in short supply and your van doesn't get completed on time.
The problem is worsened when customers (understandably) demand specific delivery dates, and the dealers are daft enough to give them, sometimes months in advance.
Based on his years of experience our dealer will only offer a very approximate date, and won't confirm it (still with a caveat) until he receives the relevant paperwork from Willersey. Far more sensible, and it also alerts the customer to some of the problems faced by dealers, and how some deal with them better than others.
Much better to be open and honest than to give the customer assurances, with their fingers crossed behind their backs!!

Not much good when you place an order on the understanding you want a delivery before Easter, and they tell you they have one in the supply run allocated to be there middle march!

"Allocated" is the key word.gmymsx wrote:Not much good when you place an order on the understanding you want a delivery before Easter, and they tell you they have one in the supply run allocated to be there middle march!
That doesn't mean guaranteed, for the reasons already stated, and Marquis clearly know that very well.
Ours was six weeks later than allocated because (I was told) A/S had a backlog of vans awaiting a particular component, and had to clear them out of the very limited factory space before ours could go onto the line.
Annoying I agree, but it's fairly commonplace. We bought a new car last Autumn, and it was "lost", somewhere between Germany and here. Not sure how they could lose a bright slime green car (wife's choice - her car ) but it was delayed a month while they looked for it.

Re: Marquis Surrey
You also have to account for the fact that most manufacturers now allow you to select exactly the base vehicle options that you want, rather than relying on A/S ordering one with what they think will be the options people will want.
The result is that the base vehicle is in effect yours from the time that Peugeot start building it on their line. Any delay to parts anywhere along the way ripple through to the end date.
I had pretty much the same from another converter (B1lb0s) - they were quite open and honest in saying that to VW they are an insignificantly small operation (despite being one of the largest VW converters in the UK) and that they don't really know for sure when a specific vehicle will arrive for the start of conversion until it arrives at their door on a transporter!
