TV for Sussex Duo
Hi, we have a Sussex Duo van but it has no TV, I would appreciate advice on what size of TV is most suitable plus spec, make and supplier. Thanks, Dave

Not the cheapest but certainly the best for motorhomes is the Avtex range.

Avtex 16" TV
Hi, we have a 2000 Symbol which we bought 5 years ago. We wanted a TV and after much research decided on an 16" Avtex which has an inbuilt satellite decoder and disc player. It was bought from the Sheffield Branch of Towsure. Although not cheap £270 it has been well worth the money. We also purchased a "Maxview" satellite dish at the same time and use this with the Avtex TV or a status digital aerial we purchased late last year.

Hi,
We’ve just replaced the TV in our Sussex Duo. The 18.5” Avtex fits really well.

Re: TV for Sussex Duo
Thanks macmps,
We've settled for an Avtex but I plan to fit it on the off side of the van near the heating controls. I plan to fit an extra satellite connection point on the outside of the van to enable a direct connection to the TV, power will be taken from the 12V connector beside the 240v outlet above the work surface.

This is our 24 inch avtex near the heating controls on a swing out mount . 2 anker powered speakers provide much better sound .
Screen shows music playing from the usb port .

TV for Sussex D
Thanks jenny and peter that's exactly how I plan to mount the TV, how do you connect to an aerial, preferably satellite. Does the Avtex tune in to Freesat?

Telco 85cm flatsat, we have the autoskew version of this one [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Avtex does the freesat tuning, any questions just ask. Hetty with dish up just outside Bordeaux.

Like the idea very much. The Kingham we are picking up later this month has a wall mounted arm over the bed but would prefer something like this on both walls. Does your set up have a quick release or is a 'static' TV?

It has a quick release, just slide the TV up. TBH it stays there all the time with no issues, even bouncing around some of the Scottish lanes it hasn’t shifted. There is a block of wood inside the wardrobe acting as reinforcement.

Cheers for the information. Is it on a swivel bracket or just like the one below?

That's what we use and you can by an extra wall bracket for the house bedroom.

Re: TV for Sussex Duo
Would you say the offside overhead locker on the Sussex Duo is strong enough to hold a 21” Avtex tv (hanging from the locker base)? I haven’t mounted it yet but I’m looking for options.
Also, is it generally okay to leave the telly mounted when driving? What do most on here do, as I tend to get different comments depending on who I’m speaking to.
Many thanks

Our Sussex has the TV mounted under the offside locker. we replaced the standard issue 10" TV with an 18" Avtex. Not driven it yet with this TV but I intend to leave it in place when on the move. Its fitted on a quick-release so can be taken indoors when parked at home.

Hi Paul - I’ve just bought my (used 2011) Sussex Duo and it didn’t have a telly. I strongly suspect the previous owner took it with him/her! All the wiring is there ready to plug in. There’s a block underneath the locker, so I’m assuming I can just get a ‘hanging down thingy me-bob technical do dar whatchamacallit’ and screw it on.

Yes our simple swing down swivel bracket is screwed to that block.

Re: TV for Sussex Duo
I take the TV off the bracket when travelling, although the bracket is secure with bolts, prefer to keep in it`s bag when on the move, takes a few seconds to slip TV on or off so no problem,
Plus if stopping enroute and parked up, no one knows there is a TV .

Beware, they can at night if you have the internal lights on, well they can with our Warwick, blinds etc not used.
I bought a Cello 16" TV on ebay about £135 all singing and dancing etc, works really well, no problems after 2 yrs.

Yes I'm aware you can see in at night with lights on but on route no-one can see the TV (we also pivot the TV so it's horizontal so even less visible).

I think the dish on the roof gives the game away. An opportunist thief would break in anyway.

I find it amusing when parked up and people peer in the windows hoping to see inside not knowing you are also looking at them, these PVC vans do draw some admiring attention.
I really like the darkened glass, although it does make outside look dismal even with the sun shining, we also close the cab blinds when leaving it parked which I hope adds to security.
