You can feel the steel rim around the hole and I simply sliced in the centre. There were no cables behind. The slots provided in the shower area are harder for access as you have all the shower pipes to thread your hand through. I didn't want to change the bulbs right now, just wanted to ensure I had the right tool carried with me. The idea is you undo the two nuts and the lens comes out with the bulb carrier ( wires plugged in). You remove plug and screws then replace bulbs and reassemble.
I'm going to fit tow bar soon so may need to use the harness that connects to the rear lights. If so I'll post photos
