Duo boxer 2011
HI All
Anyone know of a crafty way of fitting the rh armrest from the passenger seat to the rhs of the driver seat, 2011 Peugeot Boxer?
Just removed it to see, and check if the original Boxer seat had fittings, it doesn't!, and the seat lumbar knob is nearly, but not quite in the way. This is hardly ever used anyway, once the lumbar is correct and there's only one driver, that knob is superfluous.
I checked the rear of the seat panel to see if that was stiff enough to take a bracket, it isn't
I thoroughly enjoy driving this truck, but the lack of the 2nd, rh, armrest is causing me shoulder and elbow pain as you are unbalanced with only one arm supported. Previous truck had 2 armrests which, correctly height adjusted, allowed both elbows weight to be supported and both hands to rest evenly on the 3 and 9 oclock positions on the steering wheel.
If 1991 Renault could do this, surely the combined 2017 Peugeot brains can come up with something!!
BTW the armrest on the door is too far away to be of any use
Brains on please!!

Re: Duo boxer 2011
Since posting I have taken dimensions and started the design of a bracket using existing fastenings on the rhs of the driver seat.
Should have the prototype done tomorrow, just a mock-up to be replaced in aluminium
You'll be the first to know, if it works!!
Thanks

Good Progress.
Here are some pics, text to follow:-

Made a few models in foamboard, then finally cut the TUFNOL, aka PAXOLYN to make the bracket. NOT the ideal material but its all I had. It has proved strong enough so far, I'll drive with it and probably replace it with 5mm aluminium.
I drilled out the lumbar knob, and tapped the hole inside its hub M8, this now goes a long way to supporting the armrest.
Won't know until I drive it, but it seems more balanced when sitting in the driving position.
Sorry if lots of pics, haven't quite got the hang of this site yet!!

Looks great did you remove the one off the passenger seat?

Re: Duo boxer 2011
Thanks. Yes its that one. Only me drives this truck, so the driver seat settings are more or less fixed. My wife never uses the armrest, so won't miss it!!
This had several advantages, I already had it in the correct fabric etc, she didn't use it and I needed it!!
One major bonus, unforeseen, was it is now MUCH easier to get from the cab to the hab area.
Like I said, I'll test drive it, if its what I want, I'll probably re make it in aluminium.
However like all of the mods I have done, it is all removable should the next owner want to go back to original. The exception is the solar panel, you'd need nuclear weapons to get that off!!

Now done the drive test, and, yes, it does completely change the driving experience, no question.
I have already said the material I used is incorrect, I knew that before cutting it, but it is strong enough to prove the concept.
It worked well, but the armrest is far too wobbly. I have therefore decided to obtain some 5mm thick aluminium and re make it in that, I am more than sure this will be the solution.

This mod now complete, see pics.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Got the shape drawn for me by my graphics guru, Paul. Glued the print out to a sheet of 5.2mm aluminium bought online. Cut it out with jigsaw, sanded the edges. Etch primed (absolutely essential for any aluminium painting) then several coats of satin black.
Now much less wobbly than the plastic prototype, as you'd expect.
Pleased with the result, off to Matlock on Monday to properly road test it!
If anyone wants, I can send a tracing of the protoype by snail mail, just ask. I am lucky to have a well equipped workshop though, this isn't a job for the kitchen table!!
