Base vehicle bbhp power for a 2001 Symbol
Hi I'm looking at a 2001 Symbol Peugeot Boxer, which we are interested in buying - the first campervan for us. It is a 1.9 Diesel and it looks like it is only 70 bhp. This seems very low, so I was wondering whether others may be able to advise me one way or the other?
Thanks very much

They fit that engine in large coach built motorhomes and they perform ok.I have a 2002 Symbol with the 2 litre HDI non turbo engine and it drives well,,,Has taken us to Portugal,,into The Alps with no bother,,,,Symbol is a light van and not high and wide so should be fine,,BUSBY65.

Hi Busby65 and Paul, thanks.
I saw this Parkers review which highlights the 2 l HDI, 2002, onwards with 86 bhp, so a bit more powerful. What is the difference between HDi and HD?
I'd also be interested to hear from anyone who has the 1.9 70 bhp?
Cheers

For what it is worth.
We had a Fendt a few years ago. Had the naturally aspirated (some say asphyxiated!) 1.9 Diesel. This was barely adequate; struggled badly on hills, especially in Pyrennes. I had a 405 Peugeot with same engine. this would almost stall when pulling away if aircon compressor came on stroke at same time.
we replaced the Fendt with turbo model and the 405 also. Much better performance and little difference in consumption. I would go for that option. That said, i have had some really expensive episodes with HDI engines, to the point that I will not have another.
