Nuevo toilet flush tank Empty Nuevo toilet flush tank

Post by Popster Fri Jan 13, 2017 10:52 am

Having drained down my water tanks and boiler for the winter on my 2014 Nuevo, i am not quite sure how i drain the toilet flush tank. I was wondering if i could put a little antifreeze in the tank or would it have some adverse effect on the plumbing fittings?   Any suggestions please.

The easiest way is to lean on the flush button until all the water has been flushed into the cassette, which you can then remove and empty in the usual way.

The pump will race when it has all emptied, so don't let it do this for more than a few seconds as they don't like running dry.

Thanks Dave, seems like the easiest option. Next year I won't fill the tank up before my last trip out!! up!

I would not put anything in the flush water/tank, the advertised products do very little and can cause problems [with seals/joints etc.] when stood for weeks and certainly not antifreeze. In spring just use tap water.
Our Duetto had a sight-glass level indicator which was ideal for draining the last drop out. [inside the cassette housing].

There is a small drain plug on the tank which is accessed from outside and is just above the cassette to the left. Must say I also use the method outlined by Gromit above and, when extracting the plug, there's nothing more in the tank to drain.

I just pulled out the bung but it doesn't drain nicely that way. The fluid that doesn't cover your sleeves will disappear into the cassette cupboard so next year I will use the button.

At this point, I will also state that when I emptied the tank once the flush wouldn't start with a partial fill. I have emptied the tank more than once but only had to brim the once.

I should have mentioned that, the manual (yes, I read it  biggrin) kind of warns about that and does suggest having a suitable receptacle to catch the discharged water. I had a cut off milk carton ready but nothing appeared.

That bung can be a right pain when attempting to push it back in especially with cold fingers. Even when the flush has run dry, there remains significant residue to spill down into the cassette housing and yes soak your sleeve into the bargain. A small funnel attached to a short length of hose can direct fluid away onto ground.

Yes, I was told that on hand over but its not the sort of thing I remembered until the (VERY long) bung was out. Hopefully I wont need to remember again.

very nice Peter. I may just try that. Anybody know what the tap is?

I wasn't here when that was first posted so I'm not surprised that I missed it.

They will send you a free sample as well. hugegrins

You may have to cut off a bit of the spout to enable the door to close, but easy enough.

I obtained one of those taps, following that very helpful tip-off. It works well because by cutting the projecting part of the tube out of the tap so that there's a pointy bit at the bottom of the tube, the water runs out along that spout.
I also have some clear plastic tubing which I can attach to the pointy bit; lift up the other end of the tubing to the height of the filler opening; open the tap - and there I can see the level of the flush water tank.
Used to be so much better on the Clubman: the clear tube which always showed the level could be rotated out so as to empty the water neatly.

Without going outside in the freezing cold (You don't know what cold is where you live!! biggrin ) I shouldn't think it's difficult to install a length of tubing to do exactly that.

If I can find my thermal long johns I'll go out and have a look. shiver  It would be a useful modification, and (as you say) much easier than lifting up tubes and fiddling with taps.

Dave: have done it: the tubing is left attached to the spout from the medical tap (which I fitted in place of the bung). Tap is normally closed; to check water level, just hold tube up to the level of the filler, and open the tap. Having seen the water-level, close tap; lower tubing to jettison its contents. Job done.

Thanks Cymro.

I'll put it on the list for when the weather gets a bit less arctic.

Even the brass monkeys are staying indoors by the fire today!

I feel your pain Dave, we tend to get more than our share of the chilly stuff  happyyes

Today however, whilst the north of Scotland and the borders have been hit with loads of snow, we were able to hang a washing out and get it dry here in central Scotland  wellhappy

And before you ask, yes I did  biggrin
