Nuevo EK Air Spring assistors
Been out using our 2008 Nuevo for the last couple of months and I think it's time I fitted some rear suspension aids rather than the bump stops it seems to using currently. I see there are several manufactures of these air assistors/suspension units as below. What's the general opinion to which is best and best value for money, any help appreciated.
- Drive-Rite suspension kit
- AL-KO Air Kit (inc twin gauges)
- Dunlop Air Suspension with gauge/filler point
- VB Air suspenion Semi Air
- Rebena Air Susspension

Hi Brumloz
I have recently had the Rubena type fitted as they were very reasonable priced compared to all the other sytems mine consists of the 2 bellows type bags 2 gauges and air pump.Which allows for adjustment left/right.Supplied and fitted for £500 compared with VB quote fitted price for the same type of system using goodyear bags of over £1000

I had Al-KO air top rear air assist (duel valves ) fitted to my last van a 09 Nuevo ek es, I have a set of Dunlop air assist with a single valve fitted on my Sigma, it performs as well as the Alko unit, so it down to price if I was to purchase again.

I had the VB system fitted to my Broadway EK, it's good for sure, however the ride height is definitely raised at the rear.
I would recommend VB and also the compressor because if I want too, I can simply lower the rear 3 or 4 inches, which makes a surprising difference then just pump it up again!

Thanks for all your help and advice, our Nuevo could do with the rear ride height raising as I think it always looks low. Do we have any recommended suppliers I could try for the DIY kit.

The A/S workshop at Willersey fitted my Alkos to my Nuevo 5 years ago and did a good job, although some members haven't been happy with their work.

Modelman fitted his own air assist and might be able to recommend a system to suit you.

Re: Nuevo EK Air Spring assistors
Thought I would update on my post. I have fitted these to my 2008 Nuevo and I must say they were a easy to fit and good quality. they use Rubena air springs with a single gauge unit. I have done several miles trying the system out and it has greatly improved the back end, as expected due to it normally running on the bump stops. I can even level out the motorhome now instead of it dragging it back end.

I use Dunlop air assist (inflatable bags) supplied by Marcle Leisure and fitted by my local garage (the owner has his own motorhome with this system fitted). I chose not to have gauges or pump fitted and instead have two schraeder valves fitted just inside the habitation door. Easy to check and change pressure, the system makes a real difference to the handling and suspension - especially when I tow a motor bike trailer.

What type of motorcycle trailer do you use, and what size of bike do you tow. As this is my plan to put a tow ball on my Nuevo and tow one of our bigger bikes (Honda DN 01 (750cc). Any advice would be appreciated.

Ah, a fellow biker.
We started towing a Phoenix trailer (marvellous bit of kit) with our Harley-Davidson Electra Glide (trailer towing capacity was 600kg but the bike only (?) weighed 360kg so all in weight was about 700kg. Nuevo towed it all like a dream although some of the hills here in North Devon took a few gear changes. Toured around Scotland and throughout Europe with no problems.
We decided that the Harley was a bit of a lump to load and unload so bought a trailer from CMF Trailers in Ross-on-Wye and a 300cc Vespa scooter (still have the Harley though). The trailer is great and with the scooter onboard weighs in at 300kg. What a difference - we don't know it's there and the scoot is huge fun and nippy enough to go up in the Pyrenees (slower than the Harley though !!).
I would suggest you think carefully about what you'll use the bike for, what sort of trailer you'll need (weights), ease of loading, etc.
Best of luck - I'll be happy to help further if I can.
Merry Christmas

Many thanks for the information and advice. Our Honda is 270 kg so not to light but below the 300 kg. The wife and I have been touring on our bikes for many years and always fancied a motorhome, so our intention is to use the motor home as a base and use the Honda two up for touring around. What make of tow bar do you have fitted to your Nuevo, as this is something I need to look into next year.
Merry Christmas

Hi Laurence,
sorry about the delay - Christmas and all that !!
Towbar supplied and fitted by LNB Towbars of Bristol (lnbtowbars.co.uk). Had quite a problem finding a towbar to fit in this area and finally found LNB - very pleased with the outcome.
