Gas cooker igniter failed
The 12v igniter for my Thetford Caprice MK 3 which I understand is a Spinflo cooker has failed. When I press the rocker switch nothing happens.
Has anyone had to replace their igniter. I have found this online a spark generator and wondered if this is what I need to replace?

Re: Gas cooker igniter failed
I had a Spinflo cooker in a previous motorhome which had a 9v battery powered igniter. I spent a lot of wasted hours looking for fuses ! Is this a possibility?

Hi Everyone
The electric hotplate is 240v so I think it would have it's own supply as the spark igniter is 12v,According to wiring diagram there is no battery and I cannot find one thanks for the suggestions
regards

Re: Gas cooker igniter failed
This might be too obvious, but have you got the hab battery supply switched on at the main Sargent control panel?
It doesn't work unless you have done that - which I'm sure you have, but still worth mentioning???

The 12v supply is on. Last year it only worked intermittently.
Seems it must be the spark generator which are £26.55 at Leisureshopdirect.
If anyone has replaced this it would be helpful as to how you get at it?

Cheaper to buy a lighter or a box of matches?

I nearly said that - one of those hand held spark igniters would be almost as convenient as the rocker switch.

£1.41 and free UK delivery!!! This one surely can't be much good for that price (including postage)??? but there are loads to choose from.

Re: Gas cooker igniter failed
I already have a small gas lighter but the one on the cooker is convenient. I tried again this morning and it worked for a while so think it could just be the switch so may try that as it is cheaper.

Re: Gas cooker igniter failed
Hi Moggyminor. I had the same problem with my cooker and replaced the spark generator. Unfortunately this didn't solve the problem, but changing the switch did. In view of your intermittent problem, I would suggest changing that first. Its much easier to change as well!

Thanks for that-I have bought a switch but not fitted it yet. Can you remember how you get access to the switch to remove it?Chinaexplorer wrote:Hi Moggyminor. Re: Gas cooker igniter failed
Have the new one ready, then gently prize it out from the front with a screwdriver, remove the wires and put them on the new one and gently replace it. There is a little bit of slack in the wiring allowing you to do this. Much easier than swapping the spark generator. Best of luck!

Thanks for the info was a great help. Fitted the new switch today and the igniter now works fine again.Chinaexplorer wrote: Have the new one ready, then gently prize it out from the front with a screwdriver, remove the wires and put them on the new one and gently replace it. The part number from Leisureshopdirect is 240994 Ignition Rocker Switch for Spinflo Cookers.
