Mifi recommendation any one?
There seem so many choices out there it seems that perhaps the best way to go is to get a mifi unit (for the Huddle and simed Tablet)
and mount it in the roof for max signal pick-up, much cheaper than one of the outside ariel set ups.
But which one?
O2 can supply ones inc. fitted sim card with several G's loaded and their recommendation was to come in when it was used up and get another pre-loaded sim and fit that to the device. My EE sim in the phone did not start its 30/90 day period until I first used it, is it the same with all providers?
The payg in the tablet, I activate when I require it on line in £5/10 units for 30 days.
It seems that one can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (wifi only) for about £100 now but the same one, Tab3 (7.0 wifi + 3G) is in the order of £250

Re: Mifi recommendation any one?
I'm looking at the same thing myself, sort of settled for a Huawei, although not sure which model yet, unlocked as I have just got a data sim from "3" on offer 12 months, 12Gb for £30.
I have "3" sim in my phone and have reception in most areas and they are extending their 4G network.

Re: Mifi recommendation any one?
It seems there are many of these Huawei devices.
We have one that is about 3 years old now and of the more basic variety. Looking on Ebay there are many newer and perhaps larger ones out there and it leads me to thinking about an upgrade.
Problem for me is I have no understanding of all the numbers they quote. There is this or that upload or download speed often given in different numbers or values. I cant fathom them out at all.
In short can anyone tell me which would be the best one to get ? Would like one that works as fast as is possible.
Thanks !

I would get a 4g if possible, I bought a 3g ( can run up to five different phones, tablets/laptops from it at the same time ) over a year ago as at the time couldn`t run to a 4g, I use a PAYG 3 sim I bought a 12gb 12month one for £30 .this year. i am very pleased with this set up and was very impressed with it.

I have bought another one although not opened the first one yet, as still have a 3month sim in modem.
Has any one bought a Huawei Megafon Turbo E5372 4G LTE Mobile ? just wondered what the reviews are on this one.

Re: Mifi recommendation any one?
Meanchris,
Make sure you activate the 3 sim in the uk before you leave for France or you may not get the Feel at home rate.
The 12 month 12gb sim still is available from 3.

Re: Mifi recommendation any one?
Considering that they were originally around £75, that's a real bargain, unless there's a catch that we haven't spotted yet (maybe to do with the upcoming new EU roaming regulations?).
Let's hope these SIMs are honoured by "3", whenever we attempt to use them. I wonder whether they will be next year for example?

After a long web chat with a "3" call centre in India I got the answer that you can keep a sim as long as you like before activation, it took several attempts of asking the question before I got that answer. My last attempt was "can I keep it for a year before activation and it still last 12 months or 12Gb whichever came first"
I have a transcript of the chat just in case.

Re: Mifi recommendation any one?
Just been to the 3 Store looking to get a MiFi for our forthcoming trip to Holland, Germany and Belgian - they tell me it will not work in any of these countries as they do not have the "feel at home" agreement with any of these countries!!
However, it will work in Scandinavia and France - not much good for me!!

As I read their terms and conditions those countries are not covered in the "feel at home" area but can be used there provided you register the sim with them, i.e. Create an account and you will be charged 4.3p per Mb.
Not sure how that compares with other providers or with buying a PAYG sim in any of those countries.

Re: Mifi recommendation any one?
Mike,
That sounds like a lot of faffing for what I wanted - just email and the occasional web browse.
I was just looking for a simple plug and play on a PAYG system and the pre loaded "3" SIM with the Huawei look like the solution.

Re: Mifi recommendation any one?
Good evening all, similarly I'm after a simple easy fix to enable a daily check on emails, facilities to look/book sites ahead when needed and be able to make the occasional call or text home/locally when touring in France, possibly Spain and northern Europe on our trip next month. I don't, nor have never owned a mobile (various employers have provided a 'phone and Blackberry for past 25 years!) and my lad, who is far more 'tech-savvy that has done an Interweb search and noted the following:
"Here's probably the best option of French plans: https://www.reglomobile.fr/offres/grille-forfaits.aspx
....You can get a prepaid mobile sim: http://www.velonomad.com/prepaid-france-sim/
This article was super helpful: http://www.velonomad.com/articles/prepaid-mobile-internet-in-france/ ....
Hopefully we can get something sorted using these resources! Andy

Re: Mifi recommendation any one?
I have a 3 smartphone on contract which gives me 1GB per month on tethering and 1GB data so I set it on tethering which means it becomes my private wifi hotspot, plug into the charger as this eats battery power, then link my net book or my husband's Ipad to it via password and off we go. It's not especially fast. We can't stream movies but we can use email, ebay, forums and facebook which is all we want when away from home. I also get unlimited texts, unlimited 3-to-3 calls and 300 minutes to anyone else for less than £15 pcm on a sim only contract. Yes, I know I sound like an ad for 3 but it works for us. You can do this on most networks but some charge extra for tethering. You need a smartphone with the facility to do it. Mine is a 2 year old Galaxy Fame.

Re: Mifi recommendation any one?
I have PAYG with "3" no contract easy to top up phone and use the "3" sims also in Huawei mobile modem, very easy works great, fast to link up tablet, laptop etc. if off EHU can charge all with the power pack , will charge several times before needing to charge that up, as go on EHU now and again can do it then or at home. This has worked well for the two years I have been using this system.
