" Battery Discharge " on Symbol LCD Panel?
Hi folks.
I have a second hand Symbol ES 2008 just over a week and all is fine except for a nagging feeling in the back of my head that all is not quite right. The control panel over the rear doors shows "battery discharge" in red when you scroll through the items even when the van is connected to the mains.
I have been away for one night in it with no battery problems at all, freezing cold and the diesel heater worked a treat. All other panels are green. Checking the book that came with the van does not mention about it and I have searched all the threads to no avail. I have seen and I am following Frederic's thread. I have done the usual, checked the habitation battery and all is fine in fact it has a brand new certificate a well. The problem is not serious and it may be me as I was used to a push and look at an analog needle on the old van panel.
The van is going back next week to the dealer for a couple of small problems so all is not lost and it is also with a years warranty, what ever that means.
Anyone that can show a green light on this subject.
Best regards and a happy summer to you all, Mike

Re: " Battery Discharge " on Symbol LCD Panel?
Hi Mike
Could be just a display panel calibration issue.
I had a similar problem with my Symbol when it was new i.e. it always showed a discharge even when hooked up to the mains. Like you I was concerned that the battery wasn't charging.
I talked to Sargent , the suppliers of the panel and they advised me to re-calibrate the panel. Not sure what model panel is on your van but there are instructions on their website for the various panels they produce. Since then I have had no further problems - always shows a positive amperage when on hook-up.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply Hubert, my panel is a MES unit which seems to give problems looking at the web. Looks like calibration problem but cant find any info from the company. All seems to be working ok so I will check it out when the van goes in on Thursday.
Thanks for you reply, Mike

Re: " Battery Discharge " on Symbol LCD Panel?
Thanks for the information Paulmold and John. John the link to the handbook is showing a different unit to mine Mine looks a MES basic setup.
As I said the only trouble is the red battery discharge panel all the other things work ie water level, waste tank level, pump no or off, Habitation and main battery information.
Thanks for all your help, will see what Thursday brings.
Regards and thanks again, Mike

My Symbol has the same problem.
My dealer could do nothing about it so I live with it.
If your dealer has the answer, Mike, I would be keen to hear about it.

Hi Gram, my dealer went away to check and came back with the same comment so as you so we have to live with it.
As a rider, I have just done 4 nights away with the diesel heater running and being frugal with the power the habitation battery lasted fine with a green panel as we left.
Thanks for putting my mind to rest.
Rest regards, Mike

Suggest you call MES on 01926 499756 who were very helpful in the past, a while ago I returned a faulty unit to them and it was repaired and has since not been a problem.
I suspect total disconnection / reconnection of your unit maybe all that is required to resolve your problem.
