The adventure begins
We’ve just dropped our ,new to us, 1999 Symbol off for a service MOT and habitation check at a firm relatively local to us (we’re in Whitworth north of Rochdale). I was hoping, from their advert, that this place may be the “one stop shop” that we needed to get our 17 year old van looking as good as new but, unfortunately, they viewed my rust problems with a lot of chin scratching and humming. I gathered from this that they are not able to or are unhappy to tackle the body repairs we need. The van is still with them and we are waiting for the results of the MOT.
The obvious rust spots area perforated sill and bubbling on the lower panel on the driver’s side just in front of the rear wheel, bubbling in the same place on the passenger side sill and what is, hopefully, a line of surface rust under the sliding door window facia.
Can anybody recommend a body shop relatively close to us (North Manchester / South Lancashire)?
We’ve had the van three weeks now and it’s only travelled as far as a service centre so far… oh hum.
I’d really like to have the full exterior done too, the polishing etc.
Thanks in anticipation
Chris

Sorry, I cant remember their name but there is a company in Rochdale who will tackle motorhome body work - they do or did advertise in the monthly mags.

There's probably not a lot of point in pushing to find another place until you get a reply from the current garage. It may be that they are just not that experienced with motorhomes and want a bit more of a think before quoting, or it may be that they are thinking of subcontracting and can't price it themselves. Until you get a price you won't really know if it's a "we don't want the work so here's a ridiculous quote" situation or something more reasonable.

Story story so far... MOT failure, which is what I expected - needs two new sills, also expected. We are just waiting for a quote from a sub contractor. So far not a total disaster, I hope (pending quote). I am still interested in recommendations for finishing, polishing and treating the exterior local to Whitworth / Rochdale / Rossendale if poss.
Cheers
