2011 Sprinter Autobox
Sometimes when I go to start a trip I find that the engine revs are much higher than usual when doing that first bit of manouvering, as if the motorhome doesn't want to go. Once going there are no problems at all. I have now taken to working the gear lever through the box a couple of times as soon as I feel this is happening, and that seems to resolve things.
Any suggestions, please, as to what this may be, or is it simply the fluid needing to be circulated round the gearbox after a period of standing?

Hi
I would try the Mercedes Forums to see if they have any idea's, depending on how many miles and what sort or journey's you have done I would look at changing the gearbox fluid but that can be expensive
regards
Alan

Re: 2011 Sprinter Autobox
I don't know about Mercs, but the auto box on my T5 holds first gear longer on the first gear change after engine start, so the revs rise a lot more before the change to second. I believe it's normal, and I think it's deliberate to ensure good fluid pressure, so that it can't change gear before the internals are properly lubricated.
However, if the revs are rising and you are getting no drive at all I would have it checked out, as it's a symptom of (among other things) low fluid level.

Thanks for your replies. The fluid was changed at the first major service as per schedule, that was about 12,000 miles ago. I'll have a look at the fluid levels and see if that shows anything.
I've asked on the Sprinter forum and am waiting to see if they come up with anything.

You would be better posting in the general NCV3 talk forum, rather than the Europe section, to reach the widest audience.
