Tap overhaul
Hi everyone.
I have a 2003 Symbol and now that I have drained the water tanks for the winter, I am looking to overhaul the kitchen and washroom taps.
The kitchen tap has had a slight leak from between the body and the swiveling section since we bought the van last year. I assume an 'o'ring needs replacing.
On the washroom sink, when I was draining the system I noticed that the swiveling part of the tap was very loose and water was leaking from the base. Again I assume an 'o' ring has perished.
Can anyone recommend a supplier for these or indeed the relevant sizes of 'o'ring required. And/or any tips on carrying out the repairs.
Many thanks
Carver

Re: Tap overhaul
Any half decent garage will have a box of assorted 'O' rings. Strip the taps and see what you require....

Re: Tap overhaul
Hi Carver,
If the taps are the same as the ones fitted to my 2004 Nuevo (top swivels right/left for hot/cold and up/down for open/close), you will probably need to replace the ceramic cartridge inside the tap.
On my taps you remove the little red/blue plastic plug from just below the swivel part, which gives access to the grub screw (Allen screw on mine), when the grub screw is loosened the top swivel part can be pulled off giving access to the ceramic cartridge, these can be bought on eBay etc.
Hope this helps, if you need any more info let me know.
Tom.

Re: Tap overhaul
Sorry to contradict you Tom, but the cartridge (which can be accessed from the top) controls the mix and flow through to the spout. If it is failing , the symptom is a dripping tap.
The symptoms described by Carver do seem to relate to the O rings in the lower body. The bad news is that they can only be accessed by removal of the tap, and release of the locking ring at the base.
I got my masters degree in tap maintenance earlier this year when I had to tackle exactly the same problem in my Topaz !!! I solved the O ring availability problem by buying a new tap.

Re: Tap overhaul
Same here Keith. I replaced the cartridge on the sink tap due to frost damage, the symptom was leakage from under the tap control. A few months later Leakage appeared from the swivel spout. Like you, I decided the ten year old tap was telling me something, and replaced the whole thing..

Re: Tap overhaul
I replaced the spout ( it was cracked ) on the tip up wash basin, also replaced the kitchen tap completely with new.

Ebay, there were quite a few on there last summer when I bought mine, much cheaper than a caravan dealer I went to.I will see if I can find the order and the seller.

Re: Tap overhaul
Like Daisy Mae, I used Ebay. Specify MOTORHOME tap in the search panel and it will give you a choice of taps and dealers. I paid about £30 including p&p. The advantage of Ebay is that it provides good illustrations which help you to match the original tap.
