Extortionate 1st service quote
I've taken our 2014 Peugeot Auto Sleeper coach built to the local Peugeot dealers for some warranty work to-day as it's been raining in behind the dash above the foot pedals.
Anyway I booked it in for it's first service on the 2nd March , and was gob smacked with the £418 quote, so I asked why it was so dear.
This is the reason that the young desk jockey gave me, because it's a motorhome it requires more oil.
My response it's an ordinary panel van with coach built body same amount of oil.
His response err, err, oh it's the same as an ambulance and there's more work needed on the service.
Anyway I gave up with this and booked it in to keep my warranty, I know that I can go to a vat registered garage and as long as they use Peugeot parts and oil warranty will still be covered, but I don't want any future problems if warranty work is required.
I've been on another Peugeot dealers website in Crewe and they are quoting £493-66p dearer still.
John.

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
Hi John. I took my Broadway to my local garage for the first service, this can be done, as long as they use either Peugeot parts or equivalent quality. I did this knowing the service would be carried out properly.
This will not affect your warranty.

That's a rip off, as long as customers pay this they will keep charging,

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
Hi John, following your experience I am now looking at using my local garage for our Broadways first service. I use to take my previous van to them (a Pollensa) and they always did a good job for a reasonable price.
Do you know how the water is getting in behind the dash? I know we have had trouble with the rubber seal not lying flat in several places on the bottom of windscreen glass. I have put strips of black insulating tape along the full width of the screen, sealing up the gaps, hopefully successfully. Our Peugeot dealer knew about this issue last year when I took the van in for two faulty engine sensors to be replaced. He said they could seal it up for me. I said it shouldn't happen. I also said, I have never seen in all my life with my many cars, a series 2A Land Rover, caravans and a 2004 motorhome, such a shoddy piece of window sealing on a new vehicle before. He shrugged his shoulders! They really don't care, they are just after your money. I really do not trust them so I did my own tape repair. It looks neat and so far no problems yet!
Pete
PS. Can anyone confirm if AS do vehicle base servicing? If so, what was their experience like?

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
Seems more like day light robbery to me - my recent 1st service with Mercedes was £291.57 - it would have been £390 if had agreed to have the brake fluid changed. Yes, their computer says brake fluid should be changed after 2 years - it came off the MB production line in Dec 13 and was delivered out of A/S in June 14 - so I told them I am counting from Jun 14.
Garages are a rip off and will take your money at any and every opportunity.
Maybe MB are cheaper in the long run!

My dealer told me that in view of the mileage the brake fluid change was not required until the next service.

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
Agreed, that does seem excessive - mine got its first service (at 2 years old - I did an interim oil change myself at 1 year) at a VW main dealer for their standard book price of £156.
If £400+ is a standard Peugeot main agent price, I would definitely be looking at a fully-qualified independent...

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
Others quite rightly say take it to your local garage who must use Pug parts.
When we had the Executive I took it to what was then Mersey Ambulance Service who were approved by Peugeot and Fiat for servicing and warranty work and were very competitive on servicing costs. I understand a similar arrangement is in place with BT and Ford. Might be worth considering as a possibility

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
Thanks all I'm cancelling tomorrow and will be booking it in with local independent garage, I will let you all know how much.
I can do an oil and filter change myself as I have already given it 2 oil and 1 filter change as I've done 3 trips to Benidorm and 15,500 miles covered, but I want the official first one doing by professionals for the 3rd year of warranty.

Yes the Auto-Sleepers service centre does base vehicle servicing. http://www.auto-sleepers.com/servicing/
They do what they call a Silver Service which is a basic service just oil & filter etc, the Gold Service is a Full & comprehensive service. We've had both the Nuevo & recently the Broadway serviced while they did the habitation check & every things been fine, prices seem very fair compared to main dealers.
My experience of Peugeot main dealers is shockingly poor...
Bussey Peugeot Norwich charged us £100 labour for a rear light fault on our Nuevo & were unable to even find the cause of the fault, shrugged their shoulders and sent us on our way! Mark & his guys at the AS service centre found the problem in just a few minutes (it was the wiring from the tow bar had been rather stupidly wrapped up in a plastic bag, this was getting water into it & shorting out) the problem was found, fixed and sorted for a fraction of what Peugeot charged for just looking and being unable to diagnose the problem.

You paid the Peugeot dealer £100 for NOT fixing the fault? Very generous gesture.

May I add a little to this: I asked the most helpful Mark at AS in August 2014, when he replied as follows:
"Mr Lewis, thank you for thinking of having all of your servicing carried out at our service centre. An annual habitation check costs £174.50 inc. V.A.T, a Silver base vehicle service is £174.50 inc. V.A.T and a Gold base vehicle service is £292.00 inc. V.A.T. These prices are based on our current pricing structure and may be subject to change come the new year. However I do recommend that during the first three years of your vehicle that you have all of the vehicle servicing carried out by an Peugeot approved garage or a Peugeot commercial dealer so that you do not void the Peugeot base vehicle warranty. After this time you can come to us for all of your servicing needs. Hope this is of use to you, Kind regards Mark Burdett"
So for a new van, AS advise the garage approved by the manufacturer. As as been said, if whoever does it uses original manufacturer's parts, and follows their spec, the warranty would not be adversely affected.

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
Can I just point out that any garage that does the servicing using genuine parts must be VAT registered so as not to invalidate any warranty. It is an EU directive that allows this.
This ability to go to non-franchised dealers does not extend to warranties offered to used vehicles if the warranty insists servicing is done by specific garages.

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
i have had the same problem with my Broadway el as the local peugeot garage wanted over £600 plus £55( Brake fluid change) for its first service. i managed to find a small local commercial garage who only charged £120 who was recommended by my normal garage who could not deal with the vehicle size. when i questioned the brake fluid change he said that they test the fluid and only change as required so i had a result.

Same here gef, I have just this minute booked with a vat registered independent garage who as come highly recommended, and they have quoted me exactly the same £120 and using Peugeot parts.

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
Just to clarify, brake fluid is hygroscopic and over time can absorb water even when the vehicle is left standing idle, so mileage shouldn't be the only criteria in deciding whether to change it. If it has absorbed water, this can become heated to steam under heavy braking so could lead to disastrous consequences such as brake failure coming down a long hill, for example.
Hence the general recommendation to change it every two years; however if your garage is competent to test it properly for water content and then advises it's OK, then fair enough.
Otherwise, consider whether it's worth risking your (and other's) safety to save a few quid.

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
I've cancelled our 1st service with Peugeot today and was asked why, I told them that £440 was far to expensive, I also told them how much Ford and Mercedes were charging. I also told them the statements given to me that motorhomes take more oil and it was the same as servicing an ambulance. They said that they were sorry to loose the business BUT they(Peugeot) do a service which they will do cheaper than the lowest I get quoted for, this beggars belief and shows that they are chancers and charge way over the odds.

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
I cant understand the attitude of some garages, like a lot things these days the customers just don't seem to matter. Ripping people off and not caring is normal.
When I was at the roadside we attended custom care courses, care bear courses as we called them. The customer/members matter. No members no job!!.
The attitude these days is "if you don't like it go else were.
I use a local garage for MOT,s and repair work because of the costs and lack of customer care at main dealers. When we bought our latest van the agreement was that as long as the garage was reputable and VAT registered we could have any mechanical warranty work done locally.
That's my rant over on that subject, I say again what happened to customer service.

Mercedes charged me £197 for our first service and lent me a new B class whilst they did it for free. Major service in November on Lady G's C class.... £425 so Mercedes are not so expensive after all!
Where I am now you drive into the local 'drive thru lube center' no need to book or even get out of the car and for 99 dollars (£42 approx) they do an oil change, filters, fluids, tyre pressures, visual inspection and you drive out through the wash the other end, job done!

Why do people have to make things up? When I was looking at a Smart I asked the sales guy how a three cylinder works. His reply was that the turbo takes the place of the fourth cylinder. An "I don't know" may have got me looking further at his stock. As it was I quickly made my exit, never to return.artheytrate wrote:I also told them the statements given to me that motorhomes take more oil

When I managed a technical sales office, I always emphasised to trainees that the most important phrase they had to learn to use was:
" I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to that but I will find out and get back to you ".
Making up answers and bullsh!tting customers would result in a formal warning.

Re: Extortionate 1st service quote
I have been following this thread with interest and phoned my local Peugeot dealer this morning to get the price of a 1st service on my 2015 Stanway and was told that the service would be after 2 years or 30,000 miles and it would be £496 which includes an oil change, air filter, pollen filter and brake fluid. Seems like a standard Peugeot dealer charge!
