I've signed but I hadn't heard of change.org, I thought this was the site to get petitions to government...

We can, and often have. But many are uncomfortably close to the road, so it pays to find a 'comfortable' one when you cansteve00136 wrote:Why is it that hgv drivers can sleep in layby's etc and we can't?

You have to remember that most councils are aware of the possibility that 'travellers' might move into these dedicated camper van sites and getting rid of them and the mess is a very expensive undertaking......

Signed.
I did note on the comments section about councils fear of travellers as the excuse and just said 'do as they do in Europe and get tough' Lol, dream on, PC UK

Re: Motorhome parking petition
Got an email from change.org presumably thanking me for signing but I wouldn't know what it actually says because the whole thing is written in German and I note in the small print at the bottom that it originates from USA. As I said above, not the approved UK government site for petitions. If you note on the petition it says something along the lines of 'only 381 signatures needed to reach a thousand'. Petitions to UK government need 100,000 to make MP's discuss an issue. This will go nowhere.

Re: Motorhome parking petition
There must be a lot more than 100,000 motorhomers in the UK. Surely we should try to get as many signatures as possible and make an impact.

Re: Motorhome parking petition
According to the NCC there are in excess of 164,000 motorhomes in UK.hblewett wrote:There must be a lot more than 100,000 motorhomers in the UK. Surely we should try to get as many signatures as possible and make an impact.

It's not that I think we are defeated it's just that it's been tried and failed several times before. In 2007 one such petition raised just 1648 signatures.
There is already another petition on exactly the same issue, it started back in August 2014 and has reached the dizzy heights of 532 signatures.

As I said before you need 100,000 to force the government to even debate the matter, several petitions simply dilutes the lobbying.
It's also been said before that it's a local government issue and not a central government matter so we would all be better targeting our local authorities to come up with solutions to not only overnighting but also simple daytime parking eg removal of height barriers etc etc.
Canterbury can do it, Lytham St Annes can do it, Torridge in Devon can do it, Hawick in Scotland Borders can do it. It just needs an enlightened local authority to see the benefits.

make sure you are fit to drive. Do not begin a journey if you are tired.
if you feel at all sleepy, stop in a safe place. Do not stop on the hard shoulder of a motorway
surely this applies to all drivers?

Re: Motorhome parking petition
I must have met more than 211 British motorhomers myself on Aires while travelling abroad, most of whom agree it would be good to have them in the UK. This is a stunning level of apathy! Hopefully better luck this time

Re: Motorhome parking petition
Maybe we could get EU funding for this, seems they pay for bus lanes and cycle lanes and all manner of local initiatives like Marinas in the middle of nowhere in places like Sardinia. Airports in un needed areas of Spain. So why not something we all want in the UK. Not sure the above petition is going to do it, perhaps we need to lobby Brussels not Westminster! I am sure we could achieve signatures from Europe as well as the UK. I am no good at linguistics but a petition in German French Italian Spanish Dutch English and so on may have some clout.

Re: Motorhome parking petition
Signed - just gave up on Tamworth because there is only one car park where motorhomes are allowed, which is for coaches as well, and has a maximum eight spaces, all of which were taken! Motohomes are banned from all the other carparks there.
