Hi Mrs Ploppy.
Have a look on google and type in Techmoan, he does a run down on many types. One of his favourites, is a tiny one called "Mobius".

Re: dash camera
I have around 5 or 6 dashcams kicking around, but this is the one I'm using at the moment, continuous 'loop', auto start/stop, full HD, & has gps tracking, so if put onto the laptop, the screen shows not only the video, but position on google maps, heading, speed, ALTITUDE?? & a graph, AND, its tiny & comes with a 4 metre power cable so it can be well routed around the cab.

Re: dash camera
Mine does the same as Modelmans plus speed camera (sorry safety camera) warnings with life time updates and is excellent. Discount if bought through the CC as well. It's a Mio MiVue 538 Deluxe.

I wouldn't bother trying to get one at the show, you'll end up being convinced to buy a more expensive cam... (which will be no better)
There are plenty on Amazon and if you're not happy at least they have a good returns policy so not much risk involved.
The current BEST (FOR THE MONEY) dash cam is the GW1
Amazon Here:

Or eBay:

If you are a member of Which?, you could look at their website and read the review of models that they carried out last year.
I got the Nextbase iN-car Cam 402G Professional and it both works well and is easy to use; albeit at some cost.

Well the man said "Petal" was undersealed so we thought "Why not?" and went for it ....
.... but those gondolas don't half go slow and they take up most of the canal!

Re: dash camera
Hi there,
Here's another still photograph taken by the Mobius of a "Fastest Rout" motorway up where we used to live in Scotland.
It's common to find people just dithering along at well below the 50mph speed limit but no-one seems to mind; especially if it's a combine harvester coming the other way.
And here's the French version of a "Fastest Route" given by the GPS ...
.... taken by the same Mobius.
Oh, and here's a video of a similar lane where you have to know how wide your vehicle is and where it pays to "dither" a bit ....
Best regards,

Re: dash camera
Allianz appears to be encouraging their use!
“We are seeing a major shift, with people equipping themselves more and more with cameras in their cars, first of all for use after accidents, but also in case of a hit-and-run,” said a spokesman for France’s Allianz and Amaguiz insurance firm, which has tied up with dashcam manufacturer Coyote.
Pierre Chasseray, head of a French drivers’ association called 40 Millions d’Automobilistes, said dashcams should become standard.
“It’s an extremely positive development in terms of road safety and it’s good in terms of ensuring drivers act responsibly,” he said. “The camera never lies.”

Re: dash camera
Another reason for a dash cam has just come up. A good friend of mine has just had a head on with a car that was on the wrong sde of the road off a blind bend. As is the norm the driver who hit him was adamant my chum was on the wrong side. Fortunatley he took pictures even though the police were trying to get him to move before he took them. They show his car on the correct side of the road with the offside wheel crushed and difficult to move complete with the glass etc on the road proving he couldn't have been on the wrong side BUT they are still giving him hassle.
A dash cam would have covered it all.

Re: dash camera
Got a dashcam in my car that recorded a hit and run last September. It all happened too quick but the dashcam had got his number plate. Police tracked down the car but later told me that the car had been "cloned" - the plates had been changed to match another similar car. Many uninsured drivers do this so as far as police number plate recognition cameras are concerned all is legit unless they are stopped and their id is checked against car details. Still the good point with having the camera is that it proved to the insurance company that it was not my fault. Have since put a camera in the wife's car and the motorhome - they were only £10 delivered via ebay, the memory card costs about the same. The picture quality is good enough to get the number plate (just) and to prove what happened to the police and insurance company - but when I have to replace them I will spend more for better a better quality picture.

Re: dash camera
This cam sold by Roadpro for just under £80 is exactly the same as the one I purchased for under £30 which just goes to show paying more doesn't mean you are likely to get a better product!
A dash cam is such a basic device spending more doesn't guarantee better image quality, you'll be paying for a name or just lining the pockets of the likes of Mr Andy Hariss of Roadpro
I've recently fitted the GW1 in the Broadway and have moved the old one over to my work van.

Good point... I've read some country's do not allow them the same as speed cam alerts on sat nav, can't understand why but then I also don't understand why they don't allow speed cam warnings to visitors traveling through unfamiliar countrys either

Hi CC Just had a look at the dash cam you recommend. May sound a daft question but can it be used upside down. I have screen blinds so want to mount it on the dash and
not the windscreen.
not the windscreen.

Re: dash camera
I have just purchased a nextbase 402 [a bit pricey but gets great revues ,it seems to be really good] hence my question about use in France. But to answer JDS,it has a 180 degree change option in the set up menu so can be used on the dash or windscreen .Perhaps this is the case with most dashcams? It took me a little while to sus it out!!! [not good on reading instructions!!] KIND REGARDS Paul
