RV50 Curtains & door panels Empty RV50 Curtains & door panels

Post by loosecoverqueen Sat Nov 01, 2014 12:32 am

Hi, I'm new, having introduced myself the other day on the main welcome page.
We have just bought a part-renovated 1984 Trafic RV50 to fix up over the winter.
Our Stimson Sportique had velcro-receptive roof lining so I made up fitted panels from blackout fabric to replace the flimsy curtains which tended to part company if we rolled over in bed!
However in the RV50 the roof lining is not velcro-receptive and there are no rails, hooks or fixings to put up a privacy curtain across the cab/windscreen. How did the cab curtains fit in these originally? The other thing missing is the interior panel on the hinged side door along with handle etc. It has been replaced with a sheet of carpeted plywood so it can't be opened from inside . You have to go out via the cab doors or the back doors instead. Can anyone put up a picture of how it should look  please?
Thanks in advance,
Judy.

Hi Judy,
Your RV50 should have aluminium curtain tracks above all the windows, back doors and windscreen.there is some on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] here but you can probably get it from other places which might not be so expensive. The standard Auto-Sleeper curtain track gliders are useless, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ones are much better.

I'll see if I can find any photos of the side door inner trim, there are a couple on our website [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] but you cannot see any detail. I'll also ask on our club forum.

Many thanks for the website pics. It seems the inner door handle is behind the hanging cushion as it isn't visible. We may be able to make an access hole in the panel on ours to use the original one if we are lucky - I'll keep you posted.
Thanks also for the curtaintrack info.

RV50 Curtains & door panels Empty Missing door handle

Post by loosecoverqueen Sun Nov 02, 2014 2:40 pm

Hi,
problem "solved" - I've found a 1983 review of the Renault RV50 in which the reviewer says they don't like the fact that the side door has no handle on the inside - so it seems it was designed without one. We'll just tidy up the plywood panel and hang the side cushion on it as per the original design.
Judy.

The comment is in the summary on p6

It's a review of the VW RV50 compared to the Trafic RV50

Photo of the interior of an RV50 snipped from a 1988 Auto-Sleeper magazine:

(The arrow and text are mine)

I was sure ours had one.

Wonderful! Thankyou - its worth taking that plywood panel off after all then. The reviewer doesn't seem to have looked very hard at the test vehicle for that article. How did he miss that - unless he didn't actually assemble the bed before writing the review!
