Our Duetto is now nearly 20 years old so while we were at the motorhome show in Peterborough over the weekend we had a look at firms that can retrim the interior. Best quote for the curtains was £140 and new seat coverings and retrim front seats was £1200.We would keep the standard interior to replace it if we sell the van so would need to find two front seats.  Has anyone on here done this?

hi,

i sourced additional seats via e-bay - recently i bought a double peugeot minibus seat to replace the passenger seat, so that i can have 4 seat belted seats in meevan.

it cost £78 from foxcovertdismantlers -  contact name jon - he was extremely helpful and actioned delivery within 48 hours of me buying the seat. it is in very good condition too!

i am having it and the driver's seat re-trimmed in a new fabric that closely matches the linings - the original fabric is no longer available. - waiting for quotes to do this and also to have all the furnishings done. interesting to note how much you have been quoted for the front.

i shall keep the original passenger seat, but it will be in the old fabric, so not a lot of help if and when i come to sell meevan.

i'll post my quotes asap so that you can have a guide.

happy hunting.

The quote of £1200 was for the font seat bench seat, single seat, rear doors and any other trim with the same material as the seats.

Am I missing something - why do you need to keep the original interior if you are going to retrim some 'new' front seats, and why not just have the existing front seats retrimmed?

Just if we sell the van some people only like original fittings. Plus we could always sell the second interior. As the will replace all the foam anyway it is just the seats we will look for.

I too would get the original seats recovered. On a vehicle of this age if you sold it I can only think it would enhance the price - people in the know would realise its been done, those not, wouldnt know any different.

Lots of people get vans done with no issues if you use a decent material.

If you were going for a cheaper job and its doesnt sound like it for the price for the Duetto then thats a different matter

So that price includes all new seat foam as well, that sounds good, that's the bit that was confusing me.

Yes they said that the foam deteriorates over time and as ours is nearly 20 the cost for the foam is not huge, plus there is an option of having memory foam built in to the top layer of the cushions. ( we use a seperate matress topper for comfort ).

Hi there,
The price you quote is around the price I would expect from a decent re-trimming company. We have previously had a coachbuilt van refitted in the way you describe by Regal furnishing, who did an excellent job. We have also re-trimmed a van completely ourselves, including all seats many years ago. It's hard work.

Have you thought of contacting Premier Furnishing who currently trim all the current A/S vans? You will then be able to choose a more modern day fabric that A/S currently use. In terms of the work, if fabric is chosen carefully, it can only enhance the value of your van.

We are now refitting our current van, with Premier Furnishings reupholstering the seats in a few weeks time.  Meanwhile we are now in the process of reupholstering all the panels in the matching material with a deadline to meet studying . PF seem very flexible and we were impressed when we visited them in Derby earlier this year.

Regards
John

Duetto refresh furnishings
Hi Jenny and Peter
We replaced the granny curtains in our duetto for a plain cream from the range ready made they are thermal and black out and not at all bulky . Just needed to shorten and re hem and it has updated our duetto amazing .The upholstery looks so much better and brighter.

Do you have any pictures Paul ? to be honest £150 fitted is looking like the best option at the moment. ( I do not sew!)

Hi again
I would estimate around £200 for each front seat, £200 for your box seat and £300 for you bench. Best to contact them direct to get an idea, as a Duetto is very different to a coachbuilt with twin bench seats. Also your chosen fabric may result in a different price.

Remember that the ply-board to which the foam is fixed (on bench and box seat) is not usually replaced. So you will not have a 'complete rear second interior', unless you specify replacement ply.

Also make sure that whoever you chose they use an interfacing fabric between the foam and your chosen material. This is the reason that seats can wear badly as without the interfacing the material, the fabric rubs against the foam. This is most noticeable on a drivers seat, which typically get the most wear, as we all have a habit of sliding off when getting out of the van.

Hi jennyandpeter, Caz just took these photos for you, our upholstery is in good order, so we just changed the old curtains, and bought a couple of throws (which come in handy for afternoon naps :)) and cushions, the lighter really transform the van making it look more updated.
