Duetto alarm (draught from dash compartment)
Whilst running additional wires from the engine compartment, and looking for a suitable method through the bulkhead ,I discovered a plastic blanking plate that I assume would be used on "posher" models with a cabin/pollen filter.
This plate had been dislodged by the lousy workmanship of the company that fitted the alarm , by bodging it's fitting using long self tappers , pushing the plate away from it's location and making it impossible to locate correctly.
It would appear that since 1998 the previous owners of the van have been subjected to draught and engine fumes.
I don't know who fitted the alarm , but it might be worth checking that your van has not been bodged in this manner.
Is it a typical example of British workmanship , "That will do , they will not notice"?

Agreed!
Unfortunately "It did, they didn't!" and now someone else is picking up the pieces.
Best regards,

If you to want to check it , the blanking plate is on the n/s behind the glove box.
You can pull down the soundproofing to the rear of the aux battery.
It should be located by push studs that are part of the plastic plate.
If you need to run wires from the engine compartment to the dash or beyond , to add a solar panel , or automate the waste water tap , it is easy to drill, and grommet.
