hello
Hello All,
I have owned 3 motorhomes over the last 27 years the first a1985 diesel VW van conversion Autohomes that we had for 11 years not all that fast but very economical and reliable. The second was my first AS a 1985 new Excelsior which we had for ten years. Very pleased with the Ford and a very reliable van altogether. Virtually the only thing that went wrong was a bulb blew in one of the spotlights. On my reconmendation over the years at least 4 people have bought an AS and been very pleased with them as I was. Although our Excelsior was ten years old with nothing wrong with it we were forced to part with it because we live inside the M25 and fell foul of the emission charge. At the time it seemed a no brainer we would just buy a new Excelsior. Not possible as they were no longer made. The nearest to it was an Amethyst which was 2 1/2 ft longer which really we did not want as a 20ft vehicle had suited us for the past ten years and I use it as an everyday vehicle. After a lot of searching we could not find anything that suited us so an Amethyst it would have to be. We got an excellent deal from Sean at Stewart Moulands and waited for our Amethyst to be delivered with all the extras we had requested. We got a call asking us to come down and inspect the van when it was delivered from Autosleepers. Thats whe the problems started. I wont go into a long tale of woe suffice to say that it was delivered with somewhere over 40 things wrong and went back to Autosleepers 3 times before we would accept it. We have now owned it for 6 years and we think it even better than our Excelsior. The extra 21/2 ft making a tremendous difference. I still use it as an everyday vehicle. At different times it is difficult to find parking but by planning ahead we usually manage without too many problems. I have found the new Ford fast and economical ,depending how I drive it. According to the onboard computer it sometimes does 36 to the gallon. Overall I am very pleased with it.
