Re: Thatcham alarm
Hi there,
I sincerely hope that the Insurance Company is giving you a VERY hefty discount on the basis that you are fitting a Thatcham Alarm!!
If not, I recommend that you go and look elsewhere for Insurance.
Hope this helps.

Re: Thatcham alarm
You could talk to Nick at Leisurepower in Warrington (Van Bitz System)
The Ford chassis comes with a Thatcham 2 alarm, the Italian jobs dont seem to have any but the insurance company should be more specific why. Thatcham 1 has its own siren 2 doesnt but in most of the LCV chassied vans the location of the horn gives terrible access so shouldnt be an issue.
There are many good systems on the market and the insurance companies should consider these too.

Re: Thatcham alarm
It's over 50k which is why the Insurer wants a Thatcham 1. I think that all cuurent vehicles have Thatcham 2 which is (I am pretty sure) just an immobiliser. Most alarm fitters will fit a 2-1 conversion alarm.

The Caravan Club insurers have never asked for more that the base vehicle standard security even at a value of van well over £50k, they are also cheap and pay up well.

My experience is you get next to nothing discount. However it does depend on where the motorhome is based.i suspect London area it is a requirement. However sleepy Lincs ,say no more.Dutto wrote:Hi there,

Re: Thatcham alarm
I got a very much cheaper premium when I moved to Comfort from Caravan Club and they gave about 10% for Thatcham 1 but did not require it. If I remember the Comfort premium including European breakdown was still less than CC without.Peter Brown wrote:The Caravan Club insurers have never asked for more that the base vehicle standard security even at a value of van well over £50k, they are also cheap and pay up well.
