Hello - newbie needs help
Hi folks,
Have just found this forum and would like to pick some brains. I am newly retired and am thinking of buying an old camper to use as a day van (with the option of occasional longer use). I have seen and like the finish of Autosleeper models, I prefer hightops to coachbuilt, has to be diesel, need 2 big single beds/lounging area, not bothered about shower or hanging space so low level cabinets are fine. Would like some knowledgable comments on models to consider and merits of base units. As it would be our only vehicle (and funds are restricted) MPG is important. Not too bothered about age and very handy with a hammer so DIY no problem.
Look forward to some comments

Hi there,
First of all "Welcome".
I can recommend the Duetto.
Only owned "Petal" a month but have been away in her twice and had a great time.
I am getting 32 miles per gallon towing a boat and 34 miles per gallon just toddling around and there are quite a few on the market.
Best regards,
Dutto

Welcome to the forum.
I would have thought that any of the A-S panel van conversions [Symphony, Symbol, Duetto, Trident, Trooper etc] would be suitable for what you describe. Do you have a preference for base vehicle?? Ford, Peugeot or VW?
Each of us will probably naturally direct you to the particular model that we own but you should look around at examples of each to see which seems the best for you.

thanks for info
Hello again folks,
Thanks for the info to date, I am 62 years old and have retired due to ill health. We need a walk through cab (straight into back without going outside). As I have already said must be a diesel, we only have about £3000 to spend so I know it will have to be almost as old as me. I am quite handy (chippy for 35 years) and enjoy messing so as long as it's dry and the layout to suit us I can alter/update most things. Thanks again for bothering to answer, any more advice will be taken in for future use.

Hi Wirdip
3k even for an older model Auto-Sleeper is a bit of a tall order to be honest, on a budget that low your best bet is to check ebay for some of the older vehicles.
I found this one after a quick search which for 3k or make an offer is about as good as it gets but it's petrol not diesel Click Here
If you can squeeze a bit more out of the piggy bank then I think that would be wise, good luck.
