Swanage and campers Empty Swanage and campers

Hi all
We are in Gertie at the moment at the end of a wonderful week revisiting Swanage and it did not disappoint. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
However, although we tend to walk and use the bus. so what follows did not affect us personally, we were shocked to see the new motorhome parking limitations the Council (not sure at this point which is responsible) is enforcing with a vengeance. Along the actual seafront there is a narrow parking lane and ticket machines. Granted the parking road signs do say cars and motorcycles only and within the marked space but make no mention of motorhomes at the machines. On one day we saw two motorhomes ticketed although they had paid the parking charge and today two more were parked there, one a VW type 2 which fitted easily into the lane width. We are assured by the campsite staff that they will definitely be fined. This policy also applies to the road behind and parallel to the seafront and side roads in between, although the roadsigns there do add the rider of no cooking, sleeping etc so in a way are even more confusing. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The road behind that one does appear to allow parking for all comers except in one or two laybys but the campsite staff said that in fact motorhomes cannot rely on parking in any roads in Swanage and pointed us to the carparks which do accommodate motorhomes. This is new policy this year apparently and local businesses have tried to take it up with the Council but Purbeck claim Dorset is responsible and vice versa. It has arisen apparently because of inconsiderate wild campers over the last few years and associated waste problems but now we are all tarred with the same brush. Twas ever thus!
So watch out if you are bringing your motorhome\camper to Swanage and if you do then maybe try to let the Council know if you are not happy with it. We shall try this, of course stressing how much we stand to add to the local tourist economy and will update on any replies forthcoming but don't hold your breath.
Meantime we have now to decide whether to wend our way back home over a couple of weeks as planned  or whether to abandon it and go straight home and pick up a penalty point from the CC  [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]– we don't really do hot weather you see (howls of disbelief)! Wot no smiley with sweat pouring off his brow?
