Hello from North Wales
Morning everyone. We have at the moment a 5 berth 3 yr old caravan and a Ford Transit camper. We are looking at getting rid of both and buying an Autosleeper Legend or Clubman. Any tips would be very welcome

Re: Hello from North Wales
Hello to you and warm welcome, with the LEZ regulations flying towards us in January 2012 -I think this will devalue the non- compliant diesel Clubman/motorhome a little as about £1,500 will need to be spent on the addition of particulate filters to bring them up to date.
I notice that dealers around the greater London area are being more realistic in the asking price, so if you need to enter the Greater London area hold these facts in mind, plus sooner or later All cities will no doubt follow Londons lead.
You can always go for a petrol version as these are LEZ compliant, change to LPG and yours will be even cheaper to run than the good old diesel.
Iand many others have decided to stay away from Greater London rather than spend the outlay to make our vans LEZ compliant as It seems the technology (more than one design at the moment) seems imperfect and in it's infancy. Good luck- whatever you do we will do what we can to help you find your dream van.

Welcome to the forum. You have picked two extremes, the smallest and largest monocoque vans. Both have merits when they were made.
The Clubman based on the VW T4 is still a popular van and with a 2.4 or 2.5TD engine is probably one of the most economical coachbuilts you will get. It does not have a lot of space though
Many will argue the Legend was the best Auto Sleeper ever produced and one of the biggest. Its layout is great with the rear lounge, central door and forward kitchen and bathroom. The Transit is a known workhorse but the Legends are now getting old and the cabs are suffering from the dreaded oxide worm. There are a few that have had new wings fitted and cab respray and should be a good buy. If you fancy this layout and dont want to buy a new van have a look at the Transit based Rienza and Hampshire which would be newer than the Legend but not new. Current Marquis Hampshires are on Mercs

Welcome.
I loath Lunnun, and think the LEZ is just another "stealth tax" to trap the unwary yokel (like myself); however, I have to agree with Ramblingon that, as over 10% of our population live or travel through the LEZ at least once a year, it will have a significant effect on the price of "non-compliant" motor-homes.
It is therefore worthy of your consideration when choosing a new vehicle.
Best regards,
Dutto
