Quite Proud of Myself
Three tasks completed today.
Firstly after reading through threads on here, I shimmied through the Heiki on a set of stepladders within the van and cleaned the roof with an extending brush. I used Fenwicks Motorhome Cleaner. It worked a treat, removing the algae and dirt that had accumulated. It was an easier task than I thought it would be. I then applied a liquid sealant. Job done.
Secondly I replaced the outer seal on the Heki 3, which was partly missing. I obtained the seal from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] They have an online catalogue and received the item with 36 hours. As a complete newbie, not a bad effort.
I also swopped out a used calor gas bottle, for one of those new lightweight aluminium ones...WOW what a difference, easy to carry and will make a substantial difference to the vans payload. (we have two bottles).
This weekend we are on our travels to our first CL site. Grisedale Farm near Carnforth. Review to follow.

Re: Quite Proud of Myself
You are right to be proud of yourself, especially if it was as cold with you as it was here!
I also need to give the 'van a good clean but I've spent too long in the South and am now too much of a softie to event attempt it until it warms up a bit . . .

I'm not any sort of expert on Heiki's, but IIRC the missing part of the seal is intended to be missing, as it's part of the fixed ventilation that all vans with gas appliances have to have.
Interesting to hear about the lighter cylinders - did they charge you to change from standard Calor to Calor Lite cylinder? I assume you were exchanging a 6kg propane for the same size lite?

There should have been no charge to change over, if there was I would complain as it's on Calor's website..

Thanks for that Paul - sadly I've got a 4.5kg Butane which I was going to change for propane for winter use, but it's not in the same group as the Lite version :-(

It's only when I looked at that webpage that I found they had changed their policy. Last time I looked you could change a whole range of cylinders and you could definitely change 3.9 propane and 4.5 butane for standard or lites. Shame but it might be worth trying an agent in case they are unaware of the policy change.

Sorry about the delay in responding, no internet at the CL we were staying on.
Really!!!!. 50% of the seal was missing, the rear half that helps provides a weatherproof seal when the Heiki is closed! Because it was missing, it meant that sleet was getting blown into the vehicle when we were parked up at Barmouth. I had assumed I had knocked the seal off when removing 2 foot of snow and ice from the roof, prior to travelling to Barmouth during "Snowmageddon" Surely the manufacturer(Heiki) provides a complete seal, to ensure that its weatherproof. If AS just rip half of it out, that doesn't sound like a professional way to deal with a potentially life threatening problem?

I don't think there was charge, its the first time we've exchanged. The guy was a little reluctant as they are having problems getting the new type of cylinders, he wanted to give me an old one in return, but I persevered.-mojo- wrote: to hear about the lighter cylinders - did they charge you to change from standard Calor to Calor Lite cylinder? Hi Journeyman
Take care on your travels, re the Heki3 roof vent, my van started with a rubber seal around the outside of the vent.
Put my van in for some repairs to the solar panel brackets and low and behold, the rear 50% of rubber seal was missing.
Replaced it with Heki 3 rubber seal, part number 540E12 purchased from Leisurespares. Plenty of ventilation from the two smaller vents at the rear of the van

Re: Quite Proud of Myself
We love it, learning a bit more about it each time we go out. My only complaint...the Eberspacher heater. It blows warm, but it has really struggled to warm the van in the recent weather. We've bought silverscreens to supplement it and also a 750kw oil heater.
One question BB. Whats the vent underneath the sliding door seat that blows cold air when the Eberspacher heater is operating? Any idea.
Thanks
