Gloucester Habitation Door Restraint
Hi Guys, I have only had my new Motorhome 6 months and have suffered quit a few quality issues. One that is bugging me is that the habitation door restraint is just not man enough to take a blast of wind from the rear of the vehicle. Opening from the inside you have no indication as to wind direction of force, standing on the top level as you cannot get to the mid step due to the waste bin you are already disadvantaged. Releasing the catch and holding onto the door whilst trying balance can result in the door being pulled from your grasp by a gust of wind. The restrained fitted to the top is just not robust and fails, this results in the bottom hinge being strained and the door fit out of line.
Anyone else had this problem? Marquis have repaired this once FOC but I can see it being a continual issue.
I would have thought the right solution would be a buffer and catch when fully open; the moulding on the skirt is relieved for this.

Surely this is an issue that all motorhomes face? The bin will obstruct your exit unless the door is opened fully, and there's nowt you can do about wind except show caution in blustery conditions or add some kind of strap to restrain the door as you open

We haven't had a problem with this, but we are aware that the door can be caught by the wind, so are just a bit careful. Same with the cab doors in a big breeze.

You would think that it would be pretty easy for the factory at the design stage to fit a reasonably sturdy door stay or strap! It would only cost a couple of pounds more, to have agood quality one fitted. Its bits like this that you know will fail time and time again, and let the overall quality of the van down

Re: Gloucester Habitation Door Restraint
A more common, but related, problem is that the external catch which is meant to keep the habitation door open is not strong enough to resist gusts of wind, and the door can therefore swing. I've replaced the pathetic male / female little plastic clip on my Clubman a few times, with little improvement. It's shortly going in for an annual service, and this time I've asked them to fir something better. (There have been threads on here about such external catches.)
As for opening the door in the first place during windy conditions, then that's just a matter of common sense: be careful and restrain the door as you open it.
