Mc Donalds
I have never set foot in Mc Donalds before as I always felt it was "Fast Food, Junk Food" but my lady wife took our grandson to the pictures yesterday and asked if he would like a McD. Obviously he said "Yes" & so we did the drive in thing & I saw what I felt may be an OK snack so I ordered a Chicken Wrap (I do wraps occassionally) at £1.19. I was actually quite surprised at how good and tasty it was.
Mind his Kiddies Meal of chicken nuggets with chips tasted like cardboard (he didn't finish the meal and I hate to waste food)

Re: Mc Donalds
Hi there,
In France and Spain McDo do a great hot chocolate for €1 and you can log on to the internet for freeeeeeee!!!!
For anything else? Sorry but I normally give it a miss on the basis that what they show "up there" on the board bears no resemblance to what is "down here" in your mitt!
Best regards,

Re: Mc Donalds
is it just me or are McDonalds just not as tasty as they used to be? I remember years ago having a BigMac or a McChicken Sandwich was a real treat... but these days they seem to have gone downhill along with the design of their restaurants with that horrible depressive dark dowdy look makeover and stupid seating, which came about as a result of some clever clog suggesting the previous appearance was too enticing for children
Did Ronald McDonald also get the push with the makeover?

Can't resist a KFC myself. The only thing I tend to use McD's for is a coffee when I'm on the road, particularly when doing an early morning taxi run to the airport when McD's are about the only place thats open (24 hour drive-through at many stores)

It's still stretching it for them to describe themselves as restaurants.
I cringe when I see the fat splatters on the pavements outside.

Do you mean the cutomers
I think their coffee is one of the best, and I must say there have been many a trip through France, when we have been relieved and delighted to see the big M sign.

Re: Mc Donalds
Hi,
I know they are now few and far between, but any one remember the (pure beef hamburger) 'Wimpy'?
Yes there are still a few about and far better tasting than the Mc Carpet burger.
Still do the same ice creams, rum babas etc.
Well worth a trip to Croydon!

Re: Mc Donalds
Do they still do the Knickerbocker Glories
We even had a Wimpy in our small town years back... My mum used to treat me occasionally
Talking of McDonalds we were recently travelling through the night and came across a 24hr drive thru so thought we would pull in for a coffee... restaurant was shut and due to the barrier we couldn't drive through the drive thru in our motorhome, so we got out and walked through the drive thru... trying desperately to get someone inside to notice we were there by banging on the little window, eventually a member of staff came to the window and said "Sorry we cant serve you this is a drive thru only" We explained that we were driving a motorhome and can not use the drive thru due to the height barrier and that we only wanted a Tea and a Coffee... after a pause, the chap said uhhh OK, then served us but made it quite clear that they shouldn't We thought it was pretty funny
Anyway best get to bed.. heading off to Burford in the Cotswolds in the early morning

Re: Mc Donalds
I still prefer J Lyons & Co - their apple pie cannot be beaten.
Come to think of it, I haven't noticed one lately.

Re: Mc Donalds
O.K., a couple of answers here.
CC, Wimpy's 'Knickerbocker glory', yes they do, but not as big! (Or is it us thats grown UP?)
They also still do the 'Brown Derby' -doughnut and a splodge of icecream.
Tonyt, J.Lyons apple pie, (and blackberry and apple, mmm.) Last time I say a Lyons Corner House was in 1966 (?) near Trafalgar Square.
Pies, coffee, tea in china pots and cups. 'Nippys' in black and white outfits.......Those were the days!
Dream on...

We saw a Wimpys last week on our tour and commented about not having seen one for years but if you look at their website location map there are loads. Had to laugh when I googled them and it came up 'Wimpy -The home of fresh cooked nutritional meals'.

Hi there,
There's no doubt about it - nostalgia isn't what it used to be!!
Lyons and young girls dressed like the French waitresses from "Allo Allo!"!!! Ah, the dreams of dirty old men eh?
Well how about "Cardoma" (or was it "Kardoma"?) they served THE best coffee in the UK at a time when our French friends referred to all coffee sold in the UK as "Pee-pee de chat!"!
With regard to the Knickerbocker Glory, my Dad bought me one when I was a kid; but only so that he could nick the spoon and bend it so that he could lift eggs out of a long-tailed tit's nest!
Ah, those were the days; when frothy coffee in glass cups was revolutionary enough to be discussed on TV as a "What is the youth of today coming to?" topic!

Re: Mc Donalds
My goodness - Lyons takes me back to 1958 .As a squaddie doing National Service I used to arrive at Kings Cross station at 4 a.m. Had to wait for the tube to open and the only food available was Lyons apple pies from a cart(but they were warm)!
