Well, having hired a van a couple of times to try motorhoming out, we set out today just to 'mooch'. Had no plans to buy anything, but we were so impressed by a 2009 plate Amethyst that we decided to take the plunge. Original plans were to get a van, but this vehicle manages to be narrower than the average Fiat chassis and yet have so much more space. Lovely drive too. Bit worried by mid 20s mpg prediction (it's a 2.4 140 bhp TDCi) though. Not picking it up until 3rd October - can't wait!

You will find the Transit a nicer drive than the Fiat/Pugeots and yes all the monocoques are slightly narrower (good for car car parks and they dont leak) than conventional build vans
Think you will bbe pleased with your purchase and it may well be one of the last to be made.
Our van is the 2.4td/140 Mk7 with a 6 speed box and for a 3.5tonner doesnt do bad on fuel.

Many thanks for encouraging comments. The dealer reckoned it was indeed one of the last. Our engine/gearbox set up is same as yours and it was great on test drive. Computer showed 24mpg but it hadn't been reset for ages - what's your long trip mpg?
