12v solenoid valve
Am I being ripped off? I have been told that I need a new 12v Solenoid Valve fitted to allow me to take water on board.
I have been quoted £93.44 for the valve plus vat and £37.50 plus vat for labour. ( 30 minutes work)
Is the world going mad? Talk about a cost of living crisis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Presuming it is the Whale Autofill valve then it looks very much like these:

If your valve is the same as mine it will have 1/2" BSP ports with hand tightened JG hose fittings and two push fit electrical connectors.
I took mine out and it is in the shed at home (with various other AS/Sargent gizmos!) but I'm not back there for three weeks so I can't look.

Yep. £9.59 for the valve, plus 5 minutes labour = £130.94. Simple maths, for a Government contract purchasing department.

Re: 12v solenoid valve
Oops I forgot the VAT. How silly of me! So that would be £157.13.
Personally I wouldn't have the balls to quote that to a customer. I couldn't sleep at night.
Just fill your tank from a hosepipe and buy a cross channel ferry ticket instead.

So if you put two valves in series the water gets pumped in twice as fast! The Bargee wrote:.... or two actually for £9.59!

That's a bit like the valve you get in the cold water supply pipe to a dishwasher, obviously except the dishwasher valve would be 230v
