Turning off gas tank for ferry
Hi all,
Would appreciate your advice before we leave for the Netherlands on Sunday…
We have been told by the dealer at our recent habitation check that when going on a ferry we should be turning off the gas at the tank itself underneath the van (Nuevo 2019). I have never heard this before and it is a real faff. I’m not too convinced by the quality of the design of the covering plate either, which is quite heavy and i fear could easily fall off if fiddled with too often. Secondly the warning triangle by the lpg filler cap pointing down towards the tank says ‘emergency control’ which suggests to me it’s more for emergencies.
Is it enough to turn off the gas inside (ie the valves in the wardrobe) or should i be turning it off underneath each time?
Andy

AS put a statement in handbooks saying that turning taps off at internal manifold is all that is needed .

Yes, turn off taps inside. This years check at tunnel (a new one for us) was to demonstrate that the hob couldn't be lit - to prove that gas off.

I have only been asked to demonstrate that the Hob will not light. Saying that was asked once by a very nice young lady at a very wet Eurotunnel if I had turned the gas off as she needed to check the tap, well go ahead I said it's under the van, she smiled and returned to her box.

I had to demonstrate that my gas did not light and it did not because the 12 volt was not turned on so no ignition spark.rgermain wrote:I have only been asked to demonstrate that the Hob will not light. I would agree that the underneath emergency valve is difficult to access and awkward ton use, not really helpful in an emergency!

Andy,
Advice is as others have said.
They have got you mixed up. On later models AS have fitted a central gas tank closure operated by a solenoid, with a digital switch on the control panel.
Have fun!
