A big rig!
This outfit just rocked up on the sports fields behind my daughter's house. The elderly couple, late seventies I guess, also had a large car so they didn't have to uncouple the truck.
Talking to them they told me they tour NZ for about six months during the summer then winter in their house.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

These rigs are great value for money compared to big A class van, they give much more useful space and you have transport to get around.

That truck’s back axle looks well loaded!
I was very keen on the idea of a fifth wheel rig once, until I realised that once uncoupled you can’t move the thing. OK until you need to turn round in a very tight space, like down a dead end or on my driveway. A caravan is less manoeuvrable but you can unhitch it and spin it!
Good for the open road though, and much more stable than a caravan.

Re: A big rig!
We have many friends who have properties abroad, France, Spain etc.
I have always thought that, perhaps initially, a nice idea, but then you get into the practicalities of foreign ownership.
Never done it but if I did, I'd look at renting a plot of land in the country of choice and putting either one of these or a bus sized Yank van on it.
When fed up with that area or simply just want a new horizon, tow it or drive it away, but have a bungalow sized place to live when there.
My late brother had a 5th wheel and spent all winters in Florida in it away from the cold of Toronto

Re: A big rig!
A guy in this area got a massive win on the lottery. He moved into a big detached hose and bought two of those fifth wheel things for himself and his son. They sat in the front garden until recently hardly being used. The last time we went past the house it was empty and the garden was a jungle. Maybe the fifth wheel things are still there.
