It looks to me as though one member of the forum is continuing to push his anti-Green agenda, yet again posting a term that is deliberately insulting about people with environmental concerns?

I would have no objection to this thread if it were only talking about BBC news presenters.

Really don't miss it.

The TV licence is required to install or use television receiving kit, so, "I don't watch The BBC" or "I don't watch live TV" are not valid excuses for not having a licence.

If you watch any TV, on any device, you need a licence.

As I read that it applies if you download BBC programmes or watch them on catch up TV. I can certainly watch Amazon prime or I suspect any other streaming service without a licence.

I’m not so sure. Either I’m thick or it’s ambiguous scratch head

"Do I need a TV Licence if I don’t watch BBC programmes?

A TV Licence is a legal permission to install or use television equipment to receive (i.e. watch or record) TV programmes, as they are being shown on TV or live on an online TV service, and to download or watch BBC programmes on demand, including catch up TV, on BBC iPlayer. This applies regardless of whether you are watching a BBC service or another provider’s channel, which device you are using (TV, desktop computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet or any other), and how you receive them (terrestrial, satellite, cable, via the internet or in any other way).

The licence fee is not a subscription to watch BBC programmes but mandated by law. Under the Communications Act 2003, the BBC in its role as the licensing authority has a duty to issue TV Licences and collect the licence fee."

You need a licence if you watch live TV from other providers such as Amazon Prime but not their on demand service.

So if I don't watch live I don't need a licence unless it is a BBC programme, is that right.
As Tinnie says a bit ambiguous if you ask me.

It depends what you mean by "I don't watch live". If you're recording live TV to watch later, you do need a licence. This applies no matter which channel / provider you're recording.

However, If you're using a catch up app, such as All 4 or My5 (but not the BBC iPlayer) you don't need a licence

The rot set in when the requirement to buy a licence for the wireless was removed (10s per year iirc), and news presenters stopped wearing DJ and bow tie to read the news ( on the wireless). They used to read the news, not trying to be a visual tabloid journalist and make the news, or offer interpretations of the stories of the day influenced by their wokery and conscious or unconscious political bias.

We are swamped with the need for woke treatment of lgbt- whatever and made to feel it is a significant group, ie expect 33%+ of adult population to be so identified. Figures published last week from census in Scotland show truth is about 4%, so over 95%of us have to make adjustments to accommodate this minority. Don't have a problem with anyone being them self, but frustrated that media is BBC over represent this group in news and drama. Suspect Lord Reith will be dizzy from turning in his grave

Rant over. Thanks for reading!

Just a small edit from me about the BBC that I was unable to correct on my previous post because of the short time frame window on ASOF which allows this. On some Forums where I post there is no such time limit.
Regarding Brexit, my view is that the BBC were very much a supporter of Remain, not what my posting stated. Overnight there were others who posted that may have closed the window of me being able to correct my error.

Tonight’s 6:00pm news on BBC 1 had a graphic which referred to the television “license”.

Standards? What standards?

Enough said…
