habitation door hinge failure
the lower hinge pin on our broadway EB 2019 - has sheared. Under warranty, autosleepers sent a new hinge but our dealers are unable to fit it as the the lower hinge on the door seems to have no screws or bolts holding it to the moho side wall. Instead, it seems that they have to have a whole new replacement door and surround and will have to take out the old hab door and replace it with a new one which will involve heating the seals to release the hab door frame.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Anyone had problem with their lower hinge on hab door?
Any tips or thoughts?
TIA

I also have exactly the same failure and would be grateful for any info. Miner's also a 2019 Broadway EB. Am assuming this is a Hartal door.

Actually it looks as though it's a Metallarte door.

An update. Autosleepers allowed my dealership to replace the door hinge under warranty
Thanks for everyone's help.

Re: habitation door hinge failure
Clearly the hinge shouldn't have broken but credit to Lippert or Autosleepers as it must have been outside the normal warranty period.Plymouthwelshboy wrote:An update. Autosleepers allowed my dealership to replace the door hinge under warranty

Re: habitation door hinge failure
They wanted to originally change the door but then autosleepers came up with a way of changing the hinge which didn't need a new door. And it was literally just inside the warranty by a couple of weeks

Hi wonder if you could help? My 2019 Neuvo has the same problem ( bottom hinge sheared off) I’ve bought a new hinge from Autosleeper but don’t know how to get the old one off and bond the new one on. Did your dealer saw how they fixed yours? Any help / advice would be appreciated.

Re: habitation door hinge failure
Hi
Just had the door hinge replaced on my 2019 winchcombe just out of warranty, a very quick job at my dealer which took only 30 minutes.
the new hinge was fitted by pop rivets (4 of) after the old hinge was simply drilled through the 4 existing holes on the hinge to break through the electro welds and the new hinge riveted back on to the door surround using the same holes.
the job cost me £95 inc VAT but buying the hinge from Auto Sleeper is £55 on its own for the part.
Hope this info will be helpful.

Re: habitation door hinge failure
The hinge on my Bourton broke the pin in the bottom hinge. I contacted the dealer who had been the Autosleeper dealer in N.Ireland and he said he wouldn’t be able to even look at it for 6/7 weeks.
So I decided to try doing the repair myself.
Contacted Autosleeper and ordered a new hinge costing £50.22 including postage . Photo 1
Photo 2 You have to drill out the four blind rivets using a size 5 drill bit to remove the hinge on the door frame. You will find it is stuck on at one point Photo 5 I had drilled out using a size 4 and had difficulty removing the hinge as I hadn’t completely removed the rivet.
When spoke with Autosleeper services they told me to drill out the rivets but they weren’t sure which drill bit to use and I didn’t want to use too a big bit. Don’t drill in to far, just enough to break the rivet.
Photo 3 and 4 using an Allen key loosen and remove the broken hinge part attached to the door.
Spoke with Autosleeper service and they told be there would be timber where the rivets were so it could be screwed in rather than rivets.
Photos 6 and 7 the new hinge parts for the door and door frame before fitting.
Photos 8 and 9 Screw used to fasten hinge to frame and then fitted with graphite grease applied. The screws had a good firm connection and perhaps better than rivets.
It seems the doors and frames come complete to Autosleeper and they use rivets in the construction as the door and frame are added to the body work later.
I have been told the failure comes from the metal pin being connected to the aluminium hinge and this causes the pin to break. I will stand to be corrected if someone knows better.
Photo 10 Top hinge with the door part of the hinge released using the Allen key and slide down to allow grease to be applied. Be sure to do both top and bottom hinges
It would seem this is the only and best way to be sure the hinge is lubricated as spraying will not penetrate enough.
If you find your door hinges getting tight it needs lubricated before the pin in the door part of the hinge snaps as it did with me.
I was lucky only 1 hinge broke and I was still able to close the door, if both had broken i couldn’t have secured the door.
Hope this is of help to others with a similar door hinge.
