Data sims
Hi All,
Currently I am using a 3 two year 24 gb card in my vans router and it is about to expire.
I am considering a smarty 6gb a month card can anyone confirm that this will work in the router please?
I don't need a lot of data however I think this would suit my current needs and I could increase the data if needed.
My wife uses Smarty the account is in her name but of course, it's me who pays the bill, with this in mind, if she recommends me and I accept, would we both get the tenner?
Also, is it possible to stall the account from November to April ?
Thanks in advance.
Pete

Re: Data sims
Not sure about the router A/S fit but I’ve used a Smarty SIM since I fitted a Huawei E5577 cs321 in my van and can’t fault it. I always pause in October then resume in April.
By the way it’s now a £10 voucher rather £10 credit on Smarty.

Re: Data sims
I’m thinking of doing the same as you Pete, when my current 3 24 Gb sim runs out. Smarty runs on the 3 network so should be no problem. Our phones are both on smarty cash back for unused data and additional 10% off for them being on a group plan and the data sim can be added to the group.
I don’t think they do a 6GB data only card only 2,15,40,100 or unlimited.
You can pause them for up to 6 months. I was looking at a 2 or 15GB and get additional data if needed as additional data is not time limited to when it has to used by.

Smarty sim worked well for us but the 12GB EU limit wasn’t enough for us

Hi All,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Yes I realise it's a voucher, is anyone using the phone sim I:E unlimited minutes and texts in their Wi fi router? as I don't think that 2gb would be enough and 15gb at my current usage would be to much.
Thinking about it I think it is 4gb for £6.00 month but my missus had a free upgrade to 6 gb after a few months.
Many thanks
Pete

Did you overcome the 12GB data limit somehow?Angleseygirl wrote:Smarty sim worked well for us but the 12GB EU limit wasn’t enough for us
Appears all data SIMs have that roaming restriction.
I am hoping I could buy a French data sim in France for a month's use whilst travelling.

Yes, we use Popit now. You can pause it just like Smarty. Not cheap but 100GB for £25 all useable in Europe and you definitely can use all 100GB as my sport mad husband uses all of it when we are away. It will get a battering in the next month with the RWC while we are in Spain / Portugal.

Quick reply, thanks.
Hadn't heard of popit before. I'm travelling on Wed and from online-chat with popit just now they can't guarantee that their sim would arrive in time.
However, looking at this:

'EE' do consider 50GB fair, so may opt for them for this trip.

Tesco mobile are also a good, easy option for this year. They are allowing you to use their data abroad in 2023 - hubby has that in his mobile too!!!

Re: Data sims
I'm looking at Utility Warehouse unlimited deal with EU usage £33 for 2 sims or £20 for 1, seems a bit pricey but no worries about running out of data, I just wonder if any of these companies kick up if you're using it predominantly for streaming which would be my situation.

Re: Data sims
I ended up going with a Smarty Data only sim, 15gb a month for £9.00 a month, my wife is on Smart and both of us had a John Lewis voucher for £10.00 each, will pause it from November to April
been away for a week both months, we streamed some tv in areas where the ariel wouldn't work and both months we used around 10gb.

Re: Data sims
I'm on Unlimited for £10 a month from Voxi. Signed up during first lockdown to a month rolling contract and be on it ever since.
Crazy thing is it's now £30 if you signed up now, but mine is just held at £10 and renews no problem every month. It's that
good that I've temporarily moved the router into my daughters new flat while she waits on her broadband getting connected/activated.

Whilst looking I found this very useful discussion on other forum.
Answered my questions about French data SIM.

Re: Data sims
Has anyone tried IQ Mobile. They offer a traveller sim which you can stop and start and use the whole data limit whilst roaming for 3 months.

Re: Data sims
That looks good, and EE is the best network within the UK, and also has pairing agreements with many of the best networks abroad. But I would need clarification on the statement that "you can only roam within the EU for 3 months out of 12 in the year". On the face of it that's exactly what I do, but the trip month dates won't coincide with billing cycles, which might well be a problem.

You’d have to plan your trips around the billing cycles
